Trump Derangement Syndrome - Orange man bad. Read the OP! (ᴛʜɪs ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴅ ɪs ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴋɪᴡɪ ғᴀʀᴍs ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡs ɴᴏᴡ) 🗿🗿🗿🗿

The "binders of women" is exactly like "grab 'em by the pussy" - a quote so distorted it may as well have been invented whole cloth. As a challenge - without looking up the source - can you even name what the controversy was about or what was wrong with the quote?

(though I'm no fan of Romney, how the media treated his campaign was a warm-up preview for how they treated Trump)

Without looking it up: he was hiring for some job, I forget if private or government, and there weren't a lot of female candidates submitting applications. He reached out to some local women's advocacy groups and asked for resumes, and they sent him tons of potential female candidates... so many he put their resumes in binders. He then had "binders full of women" he could consider for the job.

This wasn't quite a media distortion, it was more of a gag line that they used to make him look ridiculous. The irony is that Romney was doing what the feminists wanted: going out of his way to find female candidates and hire them.

The press really had nothing on the guy, they were desperate to drag him down in any way they could. It was this, the "dog on the roof of the car" story, and the 47% thing, which Romney said in private and no one in the press could actually refute. That's it.

In some alternative world, where the media wasn't in the tank and Obama lost to Romney, we never would've got a Trump Presidency. But then we might have got an actual Bernie general campaign, either in 2016 or 2020, and I think he might've had a legit shot in that scenario.

Romney was the worst candidate the GOP could have nominated in 2012 for a number of reasons. That being said, he was crucified by the press for the stupidest of things, as you've mentioned. Almost everything they called Trump, they called Romney first. However, Romney is of the old school of "losing with dignity" that many hate the GOP for, so I don't feel as sorry for him as I used to.

Also something from the DNC that Obama and Kamala said that pissed me off. What is this "doing the work?" King Obama rolls up and just says Trump hasn't done the work, as if the orange man has just been twiddling his small thumbs. Kamala just said something in regards to "Racism is a virus and it must end. We have to do the work." Fake shit in any case.

There's an attempt at rhetoric that's doomed to fail. The entire calling card of the post-Boomer left is instant gratification. Telling them they have to work towards something is literally oppression. Every single time I've brought up to one of them that meaningful change takes time, that Doing Something/Anything just because you feel the situation is dire probably won't fix the problem, and anything else that equates to doing the work of actually making any sort of real changes rather than just demanding reality be rejected so you can substitute your own, has been answered with such a spluttering absolute rejection that it's clear their brains don't entirely comprehend the concept. Everything about them is now now now, they're an entire teeming mass of Veruca Salts.

But at a guess, what they mean when they say "Do the work" is an attempt to reinforce the establishment political approach of maintaining the status quo (with gradual but steady increases in federal power). Because of course Obama needed four more years to actually get anything done, you see, and well then we really needed Hillary to get in and have eight years to get anything done, you see. It's not that they were farting around just enjoying being at the height of the political aristocracy and accumulating more power, they were Doing The Work™. It only didn't amount to anything because bad old orange man came in and he hasn't been Doing The Work™, instead he's been making all these accomplishments and fulfilling promises and that's not Doing The Work™, which is totally a thing and not at all a nebulously defined catchy concept come up with by the spin agents to describe having Democrats in office.

I was promised gay reeducation deathcamps, and reeducation deathcamps for gays. I was promised ICE sweeper squads rounding up anyone who so much had a z or too many r's in their last name for immediate deportation back to Mexico. I was promised every single muslim in America being lead out of a mosque in handcuffs before being black-hooded for their trip to Gitmo for indefinite confinement. I was promised the deportation of every urban black to a rundown shack off a Mississippi dirt road. I was promised California being put under martial law and summary executions of academics every friday.

I was promised complete enivronmental ruin, seal levels rising twelve feet as San Francisco, New York, and Miami vanish under the waves. I was promised the clear cutting of every forest, mines being built in every national park as pipelines criss-crossed every yard of land under the soot-blacked skies that wasn't turned into landfill for toxic industrial waste. I was promised every vehicle would be mandated to automatically roll-coal on anything that wasn't an American auto.

I was promised complete take over of the press. Of journalists that weren't just straight assassinated being taken right from the paddywagons to kangaroo courts to be tossed in dank cells of CIA blacksites. I was promised all news coming from a new Trump News Network.

I was promised foreverwars, bombs falling, missiles flying. I was promised WWIII and north koreans launching the missiles that they don't have because they are a peaceful people into the flooded ruins of San Francisco. I was promised complete diplomatic isolation. I was promised filling entire schools in african and muslim nations full of disabled orphans, surrounding them with landmines and then dumping white phosphorus in an ever tightening circle so they have to battle-royale it to figure out who the lone survivor will be, and then Trump personally hellfiring the family car when the family comes to get them after it all is over.

I was promised all these things by Democrats, but the only thing I got was them burning down the cities they run while doing everything the could to halt anyone who tried to stop it.

It turns out I wasted my vote and the money I spent on jackboots.
Thanks Obama.
It's okay man, we can cry together about our disappointment.

Romney was the worst candidate the GOP could have nominated in 2012 for a number of reasons.

Maybe, maybe not. Obama was in over his head and Romney was a pretty clear "I am competent at governing" candidate. He only lost the popular vote by 4%, and lost the EC due to narrow losses in the battleground states. Considering the cult of personality around Obama, I don't think there was any candidate in the GOP field that would have dislodged enough votes to close the gap.

That being said, he was crucified by the press for the stupidest of things, as you've mentioned. Almost everything they called Trump, they called Romney first.

Worth remembering that the Republicans picked up huge gains in 2010 on the Tea Party, which didn't start out as a Republican movement; it was a cross-party grassroots movement against the bailouts and Obamacare. But it was against an Obama policy, so the media smeared them as racists, causing the lefties to drop out and leave the conservative grassroots energized.

I don't see a 2012 Tea Party candidate doing better than Romney, and none of the 2010 class could beat Trump in 2016. When Punished Ted Cruz started his shitposting redemption arc, it amused a lot of us, but that doesn't make him a candidate able to withstand the same kind of smearing. There's already a minor bit of Cruz Derangement Syndrome out there--ask your lefty friends what they think about something clever he just said or did, and prepare for some lunacy.

Point is, for all the TDS we document here, the unique thing isn't that the left is going nuts over a non-radical politician. The unique thing is that only Trump can weather the insanity they will bring against any GOP candidate or movement they view as being effective.

That's the reason they freak out so much - they expect those attacks to make him cave, and he no-sells each of those assaults. The Hollywood Access tape was 100% meant to tank his election. I'm left wondering what they'll try to use this election, but we only have to wait another month to see the next deepfake.
