While I agree that it could have been another "greek fire"/napalm like solution I disagree with your view that petrol is easy to put out or goes out quickly. If the dancin fool (I like your nickname) got his clothes or shoes saturated with petrol on impact it would be very hard to put out quickly. Using alcohol in a molotov cocktail would go out quickly which is precisely the reason petrol is supposed to be used.

People often use diesel or kerosene in molotovs, and arson in general, or some type of combo with gas because they will burn longer and isn't as explosive as gasoline. Gas is more volatile and thus creates more explosive vapor. There are a lot of things you can add like motor oil to make it burn longer and stick better.

You use styrofoam. But it doesn't sound like you've ever actually used gasoline to burn things- it's hard to put out and sticks to things just fine.
