Not to PL too hard but it was a brand new thing my year. Before that, I'm told, it was covertly discussed but not technically taught as a possible diagnosis for a patient's parent/caregiver. We used to call CPS and hope for the best, turn down procedures and note on the chart,
"(mother) is overly concerned with nondiagnostic testing" or something.

Honorable mention for a Covid-19 Munchie

Late react me if we've spoken about this before, but pretty sure we haven't.

Co-founder of the MeTooSTEM support group, BethAnn McLaughlin, created an entire false online persona, gave her corona, killed her off, and held a Zoom funeral for 4 guests.

Her Twitter persona, @sciencing_bi, was founded in 2016 and has since been removed. The character was of a female native American anthropologist who "fled" the South due to treatment of "queer folk."

The account was used from 2018 onwards to praise McLaughlin and her MeTooSTEM support group, particularly after people of colour began critising her leadership and treatment of them. McLaughlin also used the fake account to promote a petition demanding McLaughlin receive her tenure at Vanderbilt.

Come April 2020, and @Sciencing_Bi claimed she contracted the coronavirus after ASU forced her to come to work in April. Then she claimed the university cut her salary after remote teaching began. Except, ASU was already teaching remotely in March and no one’s salary was ever cut.

The news of Sciencing_Bi's death was broken by McLaughlin herself (obviously)...

Other tweets included very performative claims such as "looking at her side of the bed and crying. Just a lot of crying. I literally can do nothing."

McLaughlin was caught in this lie as Twitter friends/fellow academics began to notice that nobody had any further information, knew her in person, or could verify her claims. Searching for her anthropology research didn't yeild any results, and the account mostly tweeted praise for McLaughlin and nothing else... McLaughlin appeared to be the only person to have met Sciencing_Bi. ASU then made a statement following the Twitter stormur, that no pay cuts had been made nor had any faculty even died.

McLaughlin has since admitted to creating the account and faking the corona saga via a lawyer. Her statement concluded with the piss poor apology of "my actions are inexcusable. I apologize without reservation to all the people I hurt."

My favorite one was "morphine makes me see imps" which probably actually wasn't a lie since morphine can cause hallucinations but it made me laugh my ass off. I was calling it imp-seeing juice for a while after that.

At least when they “”integrated”” they got the chance to have a slightly more normal name (Elias). Literally just say you’re changing your name from *fucking Drexel,* you don’t have to make a whole DID and integration saga.
