Fanmade Pokémon Designs (Fakemon) - Tracers, garbage designers, and of course, furries

Seems Startboii is working on a Latin American region, though most of it is obscured by a bunch of "celebrity/rapper x pokemon" crossover artwork.

I hate how the grass starter's color scheme is incredibly inconsistent throughout the line.

This actually doesn't look too bad, though like you said, the color on the grass line needs to be more consistent. The final evo of the water line also looks really weird... but I actually really like the fire line.

If there isn't a goddamn Luchador as a Gym Leader or at the very least as a trainer class, i'm going to get mad.

The grass starter final evo seems to be a Giant Anteater, they are also called "flag anteater" (tamanduá bandeira) so it's silhouete looks like a waving flag! Clever joke but that pose looks really bad otherwise.

I know nothing about squirrels but that fire starter look like a digimon. Evo 1 and 2 are the same exact monster.

The water one is also pretty obvious a pink amazonian dolphin aka boto-cor-de-rosa. Fun fact, there is a brazilian folkore legend about botos being magical creatures who disguise themselves as handsome men to impregnate women. I assume that's the reason it evolves into a more humanoid suit wearing design.

Good ideas but the designs themselves are on the mediocre side. What fucks me up is the grass starter having a normal mouth AND the anteater mouth (unless that's a snout?). That's not an anteater, it's an earless baby elephant.

The best I got is that it obviously goes from a standard squirrel to a Flying squirrel. I actually like the smoking fire that went for with the final stage's tail.

Edit: I think I got it. It's based on the American Red Squirrel.

I thought these fakemon were supposed to be for a latin america based region, thus the choice on giant anteater and amazonian dolphin? Red squirrels are north american / eurasian animals and AFAIK there are no south american flying squirrels.

Even if that squirrel has a clear inspiration and theme, it's far away from the other 2.

This was brought up briefly in the TemTem thread, but apparently some Russians tried to make a Pokemon game, but got taken down I assume? So they decided to make a bunch of "NotPokemon" in their place and rebrand themselves. Though, for some reason, some assets relating to the original Pokemon still remain in their place.
Here's the wiki if you're interested
Suprisingly, some of these are actually pretty cool, like NotMrMime and NotSudowoodo.

And then there's... these. For some reason, the fighting types are the worst offenders.
Screenshot (1951).png

Ugly as shit, and doesn't do anything interesting with it's sumo theming. Why does it have boxing gloves? Hariyama was a MUCH better sumo design.
Screenshot (1954).png

The tennis theming with the first stage is a little weird, and utterly pointless if it goes away after evolution. Something like a platypus with a tennis racket for a tail that uses rocks as tennis balls would be much more intriguing.
Screenshot (1955).png

They didn't even try with this one.

The fire starter looks like he ate a volcanic chili and has a furious noxious ass eruption

The hipopotas fake is actually pretty cute.

They should've used a Jaguar for the fire starter if they wanted to keep consistency with the Latin American setting, i mean jaguars are the biggest and probably the most iconic predator in the region, just like lions in Africa, and considering the grass starter is an anteater (a common prey of the jaguar) it would be perfect, makes me wonder what were they thinking.

It's already been said but the motherfucker splices/distorts from official art and then traces it.

There's an instagram account dedicated to exposing fakemon artist who trace. Startboii shows up multiple times, and it would appear he gives no fucks for tracing other people's designs, which is really scummy considering how much of a following he has.

Also the second stage of his squirrel starter has literally the same pose as ORAS Wally's official art LOL.

It's pretty crazy how you caught that. From a glance, that didn't come off as traced to me. At least he's clever enough to distort the images he's tracing off of, which would effectively make it harder to tell if he's tracing.

As for Floraverse, interesting that you brought that up. Floraverse heavily references Pokemon for most of it's species, I remember the OP for PurpleKecleon mentioning something about a Ursaring ripoff.

More fakes from Startboii's latin-american region that he occasionally mentions on his Instagram.

The mango bat fakemon looks really uninspired compared to its evolution. It's just a mango with some wings, and doesn't resemble the evolution very well. I get from the little doodle next to it, it's supposed to cultivate on it, similar to Dreepy, but it's not executed well here. The Mr. Mime is traced directly from Galarian Mr. Mime, which doesn't help form it's own identity. The avocado Applin and Appletun is pretty cool, though.

The stick bug sort of confuses me. What's that cloud there supposed to be? Also, the fly fake, while it looks nice, is just a Wishiwashi clone except less clever. Flies don't tend to gather up in huge groups like that, and the wings don't look like a whole group of flies is forming the shape of it. The pinata form for Slurpuff is also a little uninspired, and probably would be better off it's own thing.
Also, is the dream catcher supposed to be Klefki?

I think the cloud stuff on the bug is meant to be that weird, frothy 'spit' that some insects produce as a form of defence.

As for the flies, you can get massive swarms of blackflies (and a few similar species) around water areas in Africa/America, often due to sudden storms or rainshowers causing them to breed like mad. They dont look like mosquitos though, more like small flies.

The dreamcatcher is most definately a klefki variant, which is odd, as klefkis collect keys, which is why they look like key rings, to hang off themselves. What does dreamcatcher klefki collect?

Well it is a dreamcatcher, so I'm going to suppose that this Klefki variant would catch dreams in a similar manner Pokémon like the Munna and the Drowsee line feed off dreams and nightmares. Personally, I like the idea of having Klefki stealing and collecting dreams from random, unsespecting people, especially taking into account that Prankster is Klefki's main ability.

That mango bat's preevo looks similar to woobat:

Pink round nose, bat wings could just be a coincidence, but still.
