I swear social media contains some of the most insecure people know to man. I really think she is just coping the fact that people didn't right away praise her art just because she most brave and stunning thing of making official characters black. If its just for fun then why did you made an entire essay out of this and not just move on same goes for any other artist who pulls the "I totally not mad shit".
I really hate that "they want to see them in a character they like so the need change it" reasoning for racebending. First of all that would be racist if a white person did it, no change in hell these same people would see it as harmless way to feel closer to a character. Second it promotes the idea that people of different races can't understand or relate to others, you can only be emphatic towards people like you. If you see something that you like and feel connected with but if it's a different race you need to change the race to get the full experience. Third it pushes aside already existing characters of your race and encouraging not making new. If people can't relate to other races then why create minority characters? We already made bundles and it's not good enough. Better stick with race of majority of audience or they can't fall in love with these characters.
Wait a while. Right now there are enough white characters for all the POC to pointlessly racebend them without competition. Once they get their wish and start seeing more and more works with majority brown cast, you'll see the blacks and latinos fighting against one another because they just blackwashed/brownwashed a character who was already brown/black.
That's because these people have an incredibly shallow view of the world. Most of the time they don't even care all that much about the story or even about the character outside of very basic reasons ("isn't she cool/badass/popular?!?!?!"). So they have no compunctions about fucking up very basic things about the characters for the sake of their own racial masturbatory fantasies.
There's another side to that coin: because of the argument that they can only relate to their own race, creators come up with ridiculously stereotyped characters to fill in their inclusion quotas. Because if the black girl isn't sassy, loud, and has a questionable fashion sense, "is she really a black girl?" or is she a white character in blackface, like I've seen morons on tumblr complaining about years ago.
Exactly. Unfortunately, these people are so damn insecure about everything that if you question anything they do you're a racist or a transphobe or whatever the insult du jour is. No one does anything for fun anymore.
That’s kinda already been happening, depending on where you look. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve seen SJWs go on about how whitey treats “POC” like a monolithic demographic (gee, I wonder how putting different ethnic groups under one vague label would give people that impression?), but when it comes to race-bending a Hispanic or Asian character or casting a black guy to play what was originally an Hispanic or Asian character - or even just stuff like substituting a Korean to play a Japanese character - the response from SJWs is usually either “Eh, they’re pretty much the same thing” or “But this demographic needs it more!”
Asians have always been honorary whites, anyway. And I'm sad for them.

It’s like that for pretty much every flavor of race who isn’t a black or Afro-X, I’ve noticed. The amount of vitriol between blacktivists and other race activists is honestly staggering.
The last one with Katara is a little wonky, but more in a ‘realism flub’ kind of way than an SJW sort of way. But otherwise I think it’s fine - especially when compared to everything else in this lineup.
