There is a major flaw with "UN means one world government" If you want member states to follow treaties and the like, you need to enforce blockades and military action, which goes to the UN Security Console, the UN Security Console has the P5 (US, UK, France, China, and Russia), all it takes is for one of the five to veto any resolution and its dead. You can't use the UN to blockade the US or any of the P5 members (or their allies) really. The P5 members are Sovereigns and the UN can't do anything to them or about it. China and Russia are often opposed to anything that benefits US, UK, and France, and France can be a wild card. I can not see at any point in the near to distance future the five agreeing to give up their Sovereign status to come to "one government"

These are not mutually exclusive opinions, actually. A lot of people were pushing for the League of Nations and later UN for different reasons. Like @RodgerDodger points out you had a lot of intellectuals that saw those organizations (and later the EU) as embryos to expand into actual Federations; On the other hand, like @Syaoran Li said the UN and a lot of these organizations were publicly, and even among more skeptical politicians, sold as diplomatic institutions to prevent pointless conflict that could be avoided.

Um, yes, that's an Australian tree. But it's not the Australian tree, which is the horrible melaleuca. The geniuses of the Army Corps of Engineers (motto: there's nothing that we can't make worse) broadcast melaleuca seeds all over southern Florida back when they were trying -- I shit you not -- to drain the Everglades. That didn't work, but what did happen was the place being overrun by poisonous trees that cannot be destroyed. They spread roots all over the place, and if you cut down one trunk another dozen appear. Nor are they good for anything -- can't be pulped, used for lumber, or do anything except absorb water. Like most everything from Australia, they're toxic and useless.

I understand that. So I don't prejudge until all the facts are in. I just wonder what the facts are in a case like this. And iirc it clearly stated in the article he was shot running away. Maybe I got that wrong. Still, I suppose there would be bullet holes in his back if that were true. Really no idea. It's just tragic. Point still remains: the police shoot white people. Even kids. Even autistic kids. Not great optics at all.
I believe we need a police force. It's a tough job, but they should still be held accountable when they fuck up. I'd be interested to know more about this particular case. It'll be memory holed though coz he wasn't black. NOW, that would have been a story!

Look, no matter what you think of Cops, the one single thing a Cop never wants to do is to shoot a kid. This is the nightmare scenario that is trained into them from day one. There is never a good outcome shooting a kid. Their life will be destroyed. Not even the most psychotic bastard cop will do this lightly. When it does happen it is normally a no win situation, such as a kid with a real looking handgun, or a panic reaction such as being charged out of the darkness and taking the shot not knowing it’s a kid.
But I still wonder what is really going on here? She “”called the police for their special Crisis Intervention Team, because her autistic kid was throwing a meltdown over separation anxiety”. Does anything In that statement seem odd to you? As a general rule you don’t opt for the police Hostage Negotiators when your special needs darling throws a tantrum and starts flinging his oatmeal. You call your support system. The school, his doctors or mental health providers, a mental health hotline or crisis team. The only time your goto is generally the police, is if there is something actually fucking scary about your little Damien. Think John Bulla and his necklace of knives. Or our old friend Adam Lanza. What was this kid doing? What was the nature and substance of his meltdown? Had he emptied the knife drawer again? Because there are some pieces of the reported story that don’t add up. What was the kid doing that prompted her to call the police? Why did she know of the Police CIT? What’s the history there?

Eh, that distinction does have merit, but the general idea of the point remains:
Why do small power structures attempt to form larger structures, whether it's family groups forming a tribe or small tribes forming a bigger tribe? In the end, it boils down to Realpolitik and the advantages of larger groups that have to defend themselves (be that "politically" or physically) against other large groups or outside threats.

I don’t think it is so important for what purpose the UN was created. The UN, as a structure, was, and still is, completely fucking useless. It did not help prevent senseless wars, and even in some cases helped in their escalation. Well, the fact that they have been promoting the Cancer of the Modern World lately speaks for itself.

I vaguely recall a similar case when I was in college, turns out the police shot the kid having a mental breakdown (or what ever) because he lunged at the cops or the parents with a knife.
The parents blamed the cops and were quite outspoken about it.
