Pretty much this. If there is a case in the United States where someone was prosecuted for CP purely because they had loli/shota or written text and nothing else, it's probably going to be at the state level since there's a few states that explicitly consider it the same as the real deal.
Federally speaking, it's legal so long as it's purely fictional and isn't depicting an actual child and if someone does get busted for it, it's either an obscenity charge or it's because it was found with actual CP.
That being said, what was Netflix thinking when they decided to give this the green light? They had to have known how most people would react to something like Cuties.

The only logic to it is it depends on our views, whatever we like, they're against, whatever we're against, they're for.

It's really just that simple, they look and see what the opposing side thinks and take the opposite stance of whatever it is.
Modern culture has boiled down to just two opposing groups that take the opposite stance on every fucking thing under the sun.
They hate anime because they don't like it and want it changed to their standards. If you look at what they say closely, they're basically telling you that real pedophilia is ok, but fictional drawings are not. They have themselves so wrapped up in this idea that entertainment physically and mentally affects you. It does not. People are drawn to things they have experienced or want to experience. It is the desire in reality that draws us to media. Those who would act out such heinous acts will do them anyway. They would rationalize their excuses to things. They don't need a trigger.
Our genes lay down our neuronal pathways. And if you think about it, it is actually a gigantic miracle most of us come out the way we do instead of mentally fucked. SJWs and the like believe in the idea of 'tabula rasa' where we're born as blank slates and everything in the environment affects us. It doesn't. Humans have inborn instincts and behaviors. Paths for diseases are laid down in our childhood. So are the paths for mental illness. And so are the paths to what we like and dislike. Its all there. We just have to supplement them with experiences, which causes our brain to grow and influences those paths. Some of those paths die out as we make others. They boil down human responses to this extremely simplistic fantastical notion.
People aren't stupid. They can tell the difference between an anime character and a real child. How are they equivalent? They're not. Not even in the mind of a pedophile. Even pedophiles realize this.
Also going up against anime isn't really that big of a risk. Its already seen as a niche hobby that 'normies' don't indulge in. Pedophiles are also predators, who will easily turn against anime loli and shit like that. Because they honestly do not care. You have to keep in mind, a pedophile is a sexual sociopath. They will do anything, ANYTHING, to satiate their desires. Some worm their way into families and become family friends for years, while watching the children grow and mature to an age they want and then will prey on them. They will use those years of accumulated trust against the child. Why the fuck would someone who would do that, or spend hours grooming someone, actually give a shit about cartoons? It hides them.
Of course, the smartest thing to do would be to condemn both so you aren't suspicious. But pedophiles are also slaves to their desires. They want 'Cuties' normalized. They want to see more of that, so they can't just stand up against it. And a lot of SJWs are fucking sympathetic to these people. And we know these narcissistic virtue signalers are easily manipulated. A sociopathic predator like a pedophile can easily have these people around their fingers.
So yes, it makes absolutely no logical sense that they would oppose one and support the other. But then expecting these people to rely on logic and thinking skills is the equivalent of expecting the return of Christ happening two Sundays from now.
