Thats not what I meant, I meant that the only way Cuties would work in their head logistically is if they made it a 1984-style story, wherein they show how bad the exploitation is by literally doing it themselves. Im not saying make a movie about dictatorships, I’m saying it would be parabolic.

Plenty of art/films forces disturbing imagery/negative emotions/etc on the audience to prove a point. Check Passion of the Christ, Boy In the Striped Pajamas, or any of the multitude of “Vietnam Sucked” movies. Hell, the whole horror genre is built around showing people stuff that they’d probably find revolting in real life - for entertainment.

The difference, as everyone except Dick can clearly see, is that to film Jason stabbing a dude, you don’t actually have to stab a real dude. That kind of stuff is okay as art because it’s fiction - no real damage is being done.

There’s a 1980 film called Cannibal Holocaust that’s pretty notorious - it’s a criticism of how American journalists and entertainers exploit and sometimes even cause violence, especially that in developing countries. The problem is, in making a film about that topic, they actually created real violence. If they wanted a scene of an animal dying, they just killed the animal and filmed it. There were also a lot of accusations of mistreatment (and even murder) of indigenous Colombian actors, but a lot of those were never proven.

It’s still a pretty controversial film today, but most academics I’ve heard seem to agree that it’s an example of unethical filmmaking, and that commiting immoral acts in order to make a piece of art about the danger of those immoral acts is, in fact, immoral.

So in regards to cuties which I have no interest in watching.

I can see a point that to bring tension and discomfort you shoot something gross. But from the clips and that list of stuff in there. like caming blowing up condoms, dick pics and tweakering....

I just feel its like that chappel show sketch where the crack head explains to kids not to smoke crack and explains they shouldnt go to this address they should look for this duded name markus they shouldnt buy drugs. all while the kids make notes.

maybe the director was in on it or maybe the producers just wanted to have access to kids

he should just do a fucking movie night and release his own rifftrack of this film.

Then he should make a once monthly pod cast where he and co host do a BPITU style debate.

he should pull people who are not part of his circle or even part the youtube blogger arena. he had an agent right? maybe reach out to an agency and just get unknowns to come on, fuck I dont know his work week but record 3 BPITU a month and pick the best one to release and trash the rest.

With a lot of crowdfunding I suspect a significant chunk gets passed around an inside group of people who all know each other. So Ralph donates $X to Dax who donates it right back to him to pad both their numbers. I remember someone did a nice visualization of how this happened with SJW friendly indie games.

Now if such a thing were happening it would be easy for the group to all decide to up their donations simultaneously to compensate for people outside the group, aka 'the punters' from stopping or reducing their donations.

And the only tell would be the number of donors going down but the average amount donated per donor going up.
