The Star Wars fictionkin/Darth Vader waifuist (FatedToVader) deleted their account, they used to be on the subreddit as a C3P0 waifuist but they claim to want to leave the community for good this time.

As always, the fictionkin posts draw in ElegantMarzipan like a moth to a flame and she gives her take:

waifuism or "fictophilia" should be considered a mental illness even more strong than down syndrome

Is there a “cure” to waifuism? Just a weird question.
That's an interesting one. You stop being a waifuist once you fall out of love with your waifu, but that's easier said than done. I've seen multiple people claiming they did tried to leave their waifu but couldn't just stop being in love. On the other hand there is plenty of people who just lose passion and can't do it anymore even if they want. In theory you could just change your life a little, introduce new habits and find a real girlfriend to occupy time and fill the void, but you know, that's hard and having waifu is just so comfortable and nice. Well, for most people at least. And there is also that sense of guilt, because after she let you experience so many things, you do feel like you should respect her and cherish that bond you have,

That doesn't sound like sincere love at all, more like a creepy obsession. Just saying.

From my experiences interacting with them, the simplest cure is to just wait. The brighter a waifuist's relationship burns, the faster it goes out.
The ones who last longest in waifuism from my experiences are those who are incapable of lifestyle changes, typically the heavily autistic, who have very easygoing, relaxed relationships that they don't get too intense over. The people who post every single day for weeks on end tend to get burnt out within months, or more commonly, graduate from highschool and learn what a relationship is supposed to be like.

Trying to forcibly cure someone who has just joined the cult is the hardest, since they're bound to ignore any doubts they may have in order to pursue going deeper like the other waifuists encourage. Once a waifuist loses that initial excitement the doubts will return and they'll warm up to the idea of real life relationships again. I've seen a lot of people drop out of waifuism, and most tend to follow the same patterns.

In my experience it's the opposite. People who do not take it too seriously usually get bored quickly while the ones who really devote themselves to their waifus, stay for long. Of course there are exceptions but even I personally wouldn't consider myself relaxed and easygoing about my waifu and I was with her for years. And I'm not talking about posting every single day, as I don't really know anyone who does that, but just building waifu shrine, sleeping with daki, learning japanese or drawing for their waifu etc. On the other hand people who take their waifu more casually, don't really care much about devoting themselves or working on their relationship, come and go all the time. Some misunderstood their feelings, some found other character to obsess over, some found gf or simply stopped doing it because they felt like doing so.

Also maybe it's a thing on reddit, but on 4chan based communities barely anyone is underage. In the Discords I'm in there is one maybe two people who are still in highschool. Recently there was a discussion about it and it turned out there is plenty of 30+ years old waifuists there.

It kills me to say this, but this is completely on the nose. 4fun hasn't been relevant since the place was burned to the ground by moot and boogeymangate in 2014. Posters are almost all 00s and early 10s zoomers which is why /wai/ is much crazier but produces less milk.
