So there's apparently a supplier and manufacturer of clear transparent CRTs that have been made by the millions as of late as of last year.
It only has an RF input and you'll need a compatible set of speakers that can fit into a headphone jack outlet.

They're obscenely popular systems that people in their 20s grew up with, and miss after they sold theirs to people like me for $5
That too, yeah, though DDR players tend to just use Stepmania now as the series is still ongoing and the last console release was in 2011.

Wiis are great for softmodding and have a good native library. PS2s have a new DVD-based mod that might be driving up the price. I find Wii regularly while thrifting, and the occasional PS2, both for sub-$20. Get a PS2 fat if you have a choice cause it can take a hard drive.
Now I'm curious if these could be modded for RGB and speakers. The speakers should be easy enough to tap into the headphone jack. As for RGB, most US consumer CRTs used RGB for the on screen display so they can sometimes be tapped into to add RGB to them. An old Sony or Toshiba would probably be a better pick up considering how cheap they are, but in 10 years that might not be the case.

lol the retro bubble's a massive clusterfuck and 6th gen stuff has been ludicrously expensive for years now, but it's actually discouraging to see wiis being marked up so much on ebay - i assumed they were so fucking ubiquitous in retirement homes and attics that they wouldn't go up in price that much
wiis are still fairly popular for homebrew so that might be a cause. the disc drive on mine was already wheezing and dying years ago so i haven't bothered

There was a game on the Super Nintendo that I enjoyed the ever living shit out of. It was called Top Gear, and it was a racing game. I've been tempted to find it and see if my console and cartrige still works. Haha!
Haven't touched a racing game after that gem. Don't know why.

I used to be into retro gaming a few years ago but the rising price of the games eventually drove me out of the market (Thanks a lot Megaman in smash 4)
My favorite console to collect for fun was probably the Atari 7800, however I was also rather fond of collecting for the Sega Genesis.
These days I have a powerful PC and I just emulate everything however some shit stuff like DS emulation runs like a wooden cart on gravel and seems to have stopped somewhere circa 2015. It just isn't the same.

Ordered one of these. It's an Android powered handheld console with a "Pandora's Box" bootable RetroArch. It's probably the most worth it considering how you can play from 2600 (earliest) up to PSP (most recent). For under a hundred dollars, this is a pretty good deal, considering many other emulation station portables cannot even run Nintendo 64.

Seems like there are a billion emulation portables coming out now, but most seem like shady chink shit.
Personally I've been happy with my Vita, but it's a beat up used one.

I should clarify, this runs up to the Nintendo DS, and yeah, I didn't get this for the Android in particular but for the alternate bootup into RetroArch, could care less about a smartphone OS that failed as a tablet platform for my retro games.
Taki Udon has extensive coverage of the Retroid Pocket 2, which I basically sat on before ordering, we'll see how the long term value goes.

I'm looking at that video now actually. If it plays up to PS1 flawlessy I may consider it as a christmas present. i would just prefer something with a bigger screen. Also wish the dpad was at the top.
Do you have any idea if the coupon codes he talked about in his main video still work? I'm trying to look for one, particularly the $10 code.

It CAN, but it's so uncomfortable to have to switch screens that you're just best playing a real DS. Hack a New 3DS, those are great. Remember, everything on the DS is designed expecting you to have immediate access to both screens at once.

My main goal is to find a handheld that can run up to PS1/GBA cleanly. My vita does that, but like I said it's beat up and definitely has a limited lifespan. Also want something with dual triggers because my big hands always touch the rear touchpad.

New 3DS has native GBA support, but the PS1 support is fucking terrible, and I'm speaking first-hand from spending a couple of hours trying to get Chrono Cross acceptably playable. (It's not, at all, I wouldn't even trust it with something easy on the hardware like SotN)
If you find one, let me know. Until then, I'd just use my PSP Go, but I'd really like something with a bigger screen and a better battery. Or hell, I'd happily take a good mobile phone controller.
Speaking of which, how's the emulation scene on iOS these days? I have an old decommissioned iPhone 5S with a bum microphone that otherwise works well, I could jailbreak that and use it as a dedicated emulator.

Think I mentioned earlier in the thread but take a look at the GPD XD. I have one of the old models and it runs everything up to PS1 no problem and a lot of PSP games with overclocking. Battery life is great too. I think the newer iterations are even better and can run Dreamcast.
My only gripe is the d pad feels a bit spongy. Don't know if they improved that on the newer models.

Don't have the dollarydoos for a GPD. Honestly I was going to wait until @NumberingYourState got his system and ask what the input lag is like.
Let me rant about Analogue:
Biggest kikes ever. FPGA allows you to replicate circuitry on-the-fly, right? So why in god's name do they have to sell each system they're replicating separately instead of just having a single box with cartridge adapters? Like holy fuck. If they made that hypthetical system where you just plugged in a cartridge adapter and selected the appropriate core, I'd buy one in a heartbeat, but there's no way I'm buying their current stuff.
Imagine making an FPGA handheld with an insanely high resolution and only using it to emulate old portable consoles despite the FPGA being more than powerful enough for things like SNES and Genesis. FFS.
