Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? I've been relistening to a Roman history podcast recently and it's actually quite strange how well the current state of our republic mirrors the beginning of the end for the Roman republic. Hell you can even look at the democracies of ancient greece and you'll see that the game is still played almost exactly the same way more than 2000 years later. Nihil novi sub sole. None of this shit is new.

Am I allowed to be optimistic that whatever comes next for America will rival the Roman Empire? Because the alternatives seem like pretty fucking dark timelines.

Obama fucking hates HATES HATES the DNC. Mainly for forcing Hilary on him. The only reason I can think is that she's even less popular than Joe and her presence has been shown to make polls go down. Maybe they know that any Harris rally will attract a crowd of brick-throwing antifa. If that's the case... my god. Dems sure know how to choose a ticket don't they?

It's probably Kamala being a liability (she might not be as bad as Biden, but she does run her mouth sometimes), and also the fact that the VP isn't supposed to be that important. Yes, VPs do go on the campaign trail and have their own events but its the first name on the ticket that has to get the most eyeballs by a wide margin. This also frees up the VP candidate to do more backroom politicking and large-scale fundraising deals for the campaign while the main man goes around shaking hands. Or biceps.

The point is, if Biden isn't doing jack shit (for whatever reason)... Kamala has to do 20% of jack shit.

Speaking of shaking biceps, I can't help but giggle about Biden calling someone's arms "guns" when he's so goddamn anti-gun himself. What a silly slip to make.

That and as Sweet and Savory said, the DNC may believe they have the election locked up by cheating. I don't think Trump's re-election campaign is doomed, far be it, but do not underestimate the DNC's competence. They want to destroy faith in our democracy so that we all submit to the new normal, watch them raze our freedoms to the ground, and push insane laws like defunding the police, reparations, and lowering age of consent. Once the DNC gets the presidential office again, they will make sure we never get a president like Trump again. They would prefer China to invade the country over a second Trump term, that's how unpatriotic they are.

I see certain users here assume that the DNC is too dumb to cheat a national election, but they did it in Arizona. Sinema's election was a testing ground for cheating in 2020, which is why Trump went so hard on voting fraud at the beginning of the Minden, Nevada rally tonight. Trump has to lead in battleground states by 5% to make up for deficit caused by cheating. In Nevada, it will be at least 10%. If he pulls off this election, it will be even more impressive than last time.

There are certainly patterns and parallels, but history rhymes more than repeats. The Founders also were well aware of the problems of the Republic and attempted to design a government that wouldn't suffer the same issues. One of the largest issues, the privatization of the military under individuals with their own objectives, is luckily something we really don't have a problem with at the moment. The best comparison isn't the Roman Empire or the Republic, but probably the British or French Empires. You have a country whose confidence is shaken, burdened by massive debts from pointless extended wars, coupled with significant internal unrest and street battles. The last one is more descriptive of 1930's France, but the point still stands.
