I know a friend who didn't want to go to a doctor for a health problem because they didn't want to spend all that money. They have no insurance, I get it. But then they turn around and spend hundreds of dollars on kickstarter crap or other unnecessary things and I have to wonder if they have no preservation instinct.

I make very little money right now but I made sure to save a little of what I make. It helps. I'd like to try getting into stonks sometime but I still know very little of how it works.

you have to invest a lot of time and effort to make it work really well, but there's some automated trading programs out there that can help smooth things over. before you go into it i'd strongly recommend plenty of research and talking with a financial advisor. and slow but steady growth is always a better plan over trying to find the next "google in 1998"

Plenty I've to say on the current topics but I've been trying not to fuck the thread up too much with my personal politics and derail it any further considering I tend to stray into debate too often, a lot like my friendo @Forgetful Gynn but it should be said that a lot of the weird Internet communities of nazis and a lot of the old 'dark renaissance' types back during 2012-2016 were all influenced by the weird aesthetic of the 90's, and there was a good chunk of our scene that popped up after the 'RAC/SHARP' skins/anarchist trends and subcultures died.

I wasn't an anarchist in the 90's (I've always been on this side), but I know a chunk of fellows that were weird ass SHARP-types, far-left types, and early anarchist types (we're talking about the types that used to flirt with edgy shit like the Anarchist Cookbook) that've essentially all shifted very far to the right in their adulthood, as far as I have, and the Overton window redefining what the left was and what 'normality' was really helped in that shift - the 90's were a weird, weird ass period for this country, but it was fucking fun.

But I've noticed a lot of people of my daughter's generation (Gen-Y/Millenials) or my baby brother's generation have this horrible habit of crying how broke they are while sporting:

• $200/mo worth of plastic bullshit kid's toys
• Full sleeve and color tattoos that cost $100's
• Name brand clothes and stuff
• New phone every six months
• Renting a car, not owning, renting
• Eating processed crap instead of cooking
• Eating out instead of cooking
• $100's of dollars on iTunes
• More video games than my retired ass with a game collection from the 80's
• Plastic "collectibles" that are just glorified toys that they don't play with
• No children just 'fur babies' who complain about not having friends
• Friendless childless weirdos with no skin in the game whining about taxes

It's like watching a goddamn child screaming at their parents that their parents hate them for not buying them the latest bullshit.

Most of these Gen-Y fuckers haven't gone a day without food. Most of them think 3 days of power blackout is horrific (Remember back in the 80's when you lost power EVERY winter for like 2 weeks?) because they live in bugman hives. If they ended up breaking in and hurting a resident (or more likely end up getting blown away by a resident) then I think it would be time to start popping black pills, because there will be no coming back from that without massive repercussions.

It probably also dovetails with the advent of social media; not just because they want to be "trendy" and "quirky", but on a subconscious level, they consoom because buying their nerd shit gives them the same dopamine hit as upvotes, retweets, and asspats.

One of my childhood lessons on buying "wants" over "needs" is to buy something not for the sake of buying, but because you genuinely like it. If you don't think you'll be 100% happy with a "want", don't fucking buy it.

I remembered and used this just today, when shopping at a military surplus store (and it dawned on me that half of the "surplus" is junky Chinesium airsoft crap that would make me look like a complete bozo wearing out in public).
