Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Sherri Stoner was confirmed years back to not be coming back for the reboot - either as a writer or a voice actor - as she heavily disagreed with Warner/the new blood on the direction of the reboot. And unfortunately, without Sherri Stoner, you don't have Slappy, nor do you have anyone who could write her character well.

So they just decided to scrap her alongside most of the other secondary and tertiary cast, and instead replaced the majority of them with "new arrivals". Meaning AFAIK: no Goodfeathers, no Rita and Runt, no Minerva Mink, no Buttons and Mindy, no Good Idea Bad Idea, no Hip Hippos, no Hello Nurse, no Randy Beaman, and so on.

So it's basically going to be absolute shit. Since I already just assume any reboot of absolutely anything is going to be utter trash in the never-ending >current year, I can write it off in advance. Fuck wokeshit.

Besides, didn't the writers hate Minerva from the get go because of how much of a character she lacked besides "furry bait"?

I'd be pretty amazed if none of the writers were closet furfags themselves.

Let's be honest with ourselves, most of them were one-note at best. Sure Good Idea, bad Idea was fun, but who here actually liked (or even remember) Katie Ka-Boom or any of the one-off shorts?

It's not so much what is missing but what it signifies about their decision making process.

Removing female characters just because of how they look is ironically sexist, hilariously. Too bad they don’t seem to get that.

Hello nurse's replacement is the muscular guy in the poster who is scratchy's nephew

A poster for the Animanics reboot popped up on Twitter today.

It looks okay-ish but I’d have to see how it looks when it’s properly animated to form a final opinion. If the Looney Tunes reboot is any indication then the writing will be iffy at best.

the writing is painfully fucking xoomery, thats all i'll say on the matter

Meanwhile, an older writer comments that the younger guys arent familiar with old stuff, and hilarity ensues.
Shouldnt these guys be, you know, writing? Why're they whining about stuff on twitter?"

He comes off as kind of an asshole, but he's basically right. You should be familiar with stuff you didn't grow up with. Expand your fucking horizons.

I cant help but notice that whenever I hear people talk about something old, its usually something mentioned by a youtuber, old anime like Goldbat, Captain Ken (was it?), I was familiar with those, but no one else did until big anime youtuber 3 mentioned them. Then you have people actually watching Kimba because of youtuber 445, its like people dont wanna explore despite the internet being bigger and quicker than ever before.

Ostensibly the Internet was supposed to expand our horizons and show us things we never learned of before. In reality, we're all stuck in our own little bubbles and rarely if ever get out of them.

I have seen so many things - great old Hungarian animated films, shorts from Armenia, weird obscure animes no one ever heard about - that people would love if they knew they existed. But, like I said, we're all in our own little bubbles most of the time.

All that's needed to tell if the The Boondocks reboot is going to be godawful or kino is a single detail:

If pre-release photos show Riley wearing a MAGA hat, we'll immediately know it's going to be TLOU2-tier Current Year dreck.

If he's wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt, on the other hand, it could very well be better than the original series, even ignoring the final season.

You know Riley would wear the latter.

A friend of mine pointed out that, even though it’s been in production for like three years and is coming out in two months, we’ve yet to see any preview of what the reboot Animanics looks like in motion.

It was also decribed in a recent video as “not your Daddy’s Animanicas” and I want to die.

The original show was pretty nuanced. It critiqued police brutality while also pointing out that the black community's worst enemy is itself

Let’s also not forget that it responded to rabid fandoms in a way that ALL shows should...

We're talking about The Boondocks here.

But while we're on the subject, the clip above was actually shown to some fans when they visited the studios in '95 or so, and they all took it in good humor.

(The series became very, very meta in the Kids' WB years...)

It's been over 10 years since the haunted world of el super beasto came out and I still kinda wish rob would return and so some kind of sequel or follow up. Granted the more sjw infested side of animation probably wouldn't take to kind to a movie that looks it was made by john k (it wasn't btw it was done by people who worked with him at spumco though) and features naked women for the majority of the running time (and ones that AREN'T but ugly land whales at that) but that's why I really want rob to make a new el super beasto movie. The man has been giving the middle finger to pc culture since 98

Nice touch with that minerva mink poster, it's like they knew the kind of people who would end up beating off to her for the following years since she was created. Also if that joke was done today you can bet it would be on a pillow now a dakimakura pillow and there would be figurines of her fifi and babs on the desk
