Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Honestly Drawn Together should just stay in the ground.
Rebooting shows is a dumb idea, but some shows just don’t deserve to be acknowledged, let alone rebooted.
Eh, I appreciate for what it was: just a dumb adult cartoon mocking animation and stuff. It’s like eating McDonalds: you know what you’re getting going in.

A friend of mine pointed out that, even though it’s been in production for like three years and is coming out in two months, we’ve yet to see any preview of what the reboot Animanics looks like in motion.

It was also decribed in a recent video as “not your Daddy’s Animanicas” and I want to die.
Man, that preview has maybe one second at most of new animation. They're doing that approach from videogaming where they try to get you invested in the behind the scenes stuff before showing any real footage.

I guess this is old news now but I'm very relieved to see that the Animaniacs are not modernizing the art style. It was very weird to hear these cartoon voices again that I haven't heard in years and years. Also it's great that Pinky & The Brain are returning which obviously was the best skit the show had.

The Hootie and the Blowfish Napster joke was a clunker but I get that when you're reviving a decades old cartoon you've gotta make the dated 90s reference.

The original show was very, very 90s, so this is going to be very, very now... for better or for worse, and in the original show it could get pretty bad.

The Ren & Stimpy reboot is unofficially dead

There’s a good chance they might be pulling a ThunderCats Roar; laying on the downlow and then quietly releasing it at a later time. Keep in mind Roar was announced in 2018 and set for a 2019 release date but didn’t debut till 2020.
If it was cancelled, I’d be pissed; not because I have any love for the show but imagine if people had campaigns to get She Ra or Rise of the TMNT cancelled. You know these people’s attitudes towards fan backlash would do a quick 180.
I really hope that people (especially on twitter) won't take it as "anything can be cancelled if you bitch about it loud enough"
Hasn’t that been their go to tactic this past decade?

It was Yuri Norstein's birthday a few days ago. I wonder how many people have noticed that a talk he gave at Klasky-Csupo in 1999 is on YouTube:

And here are the other parts.

And, if you're like me, you're probably wondering "Will he ever finish The Overcoat or not?"
Interesting lecture, thank you for linking it!
Kind of sad that they used an inexperienced interpreter, but the message is still clear.

On one hand I worry..on the other they got the Original Voice actors.

I wonder if they are going to make a reference to Wakko's VA being in a Rock Band for the past 2 decades doing mashup cover songs.

So, Indie Wire decided to make a list of the 55 greatest cartoons of all time, and dear lord, it is dreadful. Just take a look at #9 and that'll be all you need to know.
Took a wild guess and thought it was going to be SU, but low and behold it's a show 100x worse. Is this really the best adult animation can do? I know Bojack's in first place and I don't really have an opinion on that but Big Mouth strikes me as something that should be on a list but not one of BEST CARTOONS EVER.

Well, can't argue with greatness. Wazzup, bitches??

Ok, in all seriousness, this list is dumb. Big Mouth and Teen Titans Go at all, really? Simpsons at #2? Maybe 25 years ago, but not now.

I only saw FLCL once and thought it was stupid, am I uncultured or something?

Also I like Sailor Moon, it's cute, but it's way too repetitive, cheaply-animated, and toy-commercial to be considered a best cartoon ever. Maybe I needed to be in grade school when I first watched it.

Fuck #9, why the fuck is TTG on that list? For that matter, they show a picture of the Powerpuff Girls reboot despite the entry being about the original series. Why the fuck would they do that?

Because it was made by clowns who probably don’t even care that much about animation.

Some cartoons creators might feel crossed by Cartoon Network today.

And some Youtubers bring more food for thoughts.

This also brings up the questions. How many shows did CN intentionally crash into the dirt over the years just for a tax break, Like the good Thundercats 2011 Remake they tanked to push the lego show instead, That would have otherwise been a success. How many IPs were basically murdered by CN to save money. And can never come back because of that. Has Nickelodeon done the same?

I never thought Megas XLR would ever be brought up. A surprise for sure but a welcomed one. Funfact: the show is available for purchase on iTunes and the Microsoft store

How the hell do people not know that the creators don't own their own shows? That's why they did the PPG reboot.

When you sell a show to a company, the company owns it outright and they can do what they want with it. You, the creator, often do not enter into it.
