Their common threads are that they're both in Los Angeles and would do anything to work in comedy. Dick himself said something a few episodes ago about how the only edgy jokes that won't get you unpersoned today are about doing horrible things to children, but that's from his own L.A. perspective.

And as we all know, to succeed in comedy, it's really best to play it safe and not push the envelope even the slightest bit. Everyone loves it when you pound the table over the topic of freedom of speech so hard, you spend days defending literal child porn that doesn't pass the DOST test, but you have a heart attack and every time a caller says the word "FAGGOT", followed by an actual censoring of them and a small lecture about how they shouldn't say "FAGGOT".
