Ok here's my take. Even if they were ideal parents, the eldest child of a larger family feels like they are used. More is asked out of them babysitting, clean, etc. The younger kids get more attention and get to play, while the eldest's primary purpose is to help out. You are asked to be an adult basically when you are still a child yourself. You want to be able to 'play' and need attention desperately, even when you aren't really being treated that poorly at all. And because you mainly have to stay inline and be an adult, the second you are of age you make a ton of mistakes because you finally are able to be yourself and make your own choices.

A lot of police departments these days are ignoring low level offenses, especially in major cities. If it was huge, there would be a charge at least by now - especially if there was proof of probation violation. They probably just took acid or something and the police don't care.
