Spanish civil war was defined by a marked urban rural split. And the far left commies in spain definitely had their bastions in the urban areas. It popped off over a disputed election mostly, though in that case the left won and the right decided to launch a coup. Which failed and in the end caused a years long civil war that absolutely trashed the country. You didn't really see ethnic cleansing, but the urban fighting was absolutely brutal and the Francoist forces often resorted to siege tactics to literally starve the cities into surrender.

If people wonder what a second US civil war would look like, I would expect something very similar.

The American Right and more specifically Trump has become an existential threat to to the permanent State and the international corporations that depend on it. Not him but these increasing "ambushes" and killings, even if self defense, of Antifa are reminding me increasingly of the killings that happened before the Spanish Civil War that slowly pushed the Military over the edge and decide to coup the Government.
