The urban-rural conflict has been threatening to come to a head for awhile. The rioting has something to do with it -- the left has mostly been devouring itself, though, by taking their fight to the cities, which is where they live. The big change this year, I think, is Corona, because it has caused a lot of people to leave the cities.

When I did that a number of years ago, I was mostly interested at first to acclimate, to learn local customs and manners. I'm not at all confident that the new wave of urban expats will do this. I expect them to hit the sticks and start barking orders and making demands. And I don't think that kind of thing will go over very well, as nice as country folk tend to be.

TL/DR: There's been rural-urban disunity all along and it's likely to flare as the urbans move to rural areas because of the coof.

The background story here is that an unmarked police car pulled over a Lyft driver for a broken tail light, the driver didn't have a license.

The police asked this Roderick Walker guy for an ID, which he correctly asserted he had no obligation to provide when he wasn't driving or suspected of any crime. The cops didn't like that answer and this video happened.

The whole unmarked car conducting traffic stops screams interdiction or gang unit which more often than not results in these kind of unconstitutional stops and searches.

I've said before it really depends on how the election plays out. Complicated by the fact that no matter what happens Trump will still be president until January. But war gaming is fun, so.....

This is how I see it going if it goes bad. I would expect if things are sufficiently muddled the media will declare Biden the winner often and loudly, Trump will deny it and for the next few weeks we will see escalating street level violence in the lead up to the end of Trumps term on January 13. At which point the Supreme Court is almost certain to have done another Bush V. Gore with a hard split decision that will pivot on John Robert's. There are still off ramps away from disaster still but on January 13 time runs out.

Two things could happen. Either both Trump and Biden swear themselves in, or the election STILL has not been decided in which case Nancy Pelosi is sworn in as President. That is when things go off the rails. Both sides issue directives to the military and federal law enforcement aimed at the other. I expect that the military dives for the nearest foxhole at the outset and prays this just passes over. The federal lawmen however pick sides immediately. Based on passive observation, the FBI and DC national guard along with the metropolitan police sides with the Democrats and the Secret Service and US Marshall's side with the Republicans. We may see a full on shootout at the White House as the SS evacuates Trump and his family. Pelosi or Biden ensconce themselves in the White House and declare the national nightmare over on live TV from the oval office.

At which point all hell breaks loose as the various States start picking sides and then fracture as the various factions within the States challenge whatever is decided. For example, Virginas state government run by the Democrats would side with their party but the massive armed and restive right wing would almost certainly rise in revolt at this point and attempt to drag Northam out of the governors mansion by force. Conversely Republican run States like Georgia would side with their party and then immediately lose control of their State capitals as violent mobs storm their respective legislatures and governors mansions.

In either cases national guards are immediately mobilized and then the violence will escalate so fast your head will spin. Within a few days both Trump and Pelosi/Biden invoke the insurrection act and order the Army to take out their opposition. Officers and enlisted, still sitting in the foxhole praying the storm passes them by suddenly have to make decisions. Mutineys and sabotage run rampant, you might start seeing Air National guard fighters engage active air force fighters, bombs will get dropped, more people will die, entire platoons will raid the armories and go rogue, while entire divisions may maintain nominal cohesion for one side or the other.

And then for a year it an absolute bloodbath as both sides fight to carve out some sort geographical continuity to base their operations from and suppress the other. In the end the country will be brought back together. It's a zero sum argument. But it will never be the same.

My strict legalist autist brain is going nuts, Lyft should be in trouble for fielding an unlicensed driver, or one that is too dumb to carry ID when you're driving commercially (you should carry ID, insurance and registration at all times when operating a vehicle for real). This is why allowing "Ride Share" drivers to bypass the red tape livery license holders have to go through is a mistake.
