It's that mixed with "movies are real" syndrome. There were so many movies in the 80s and 90s about deforestation. Every other bad guy in children's movies was some rich, obese lumber baron who smoked cigars and didn't care about those blasted forest creatures as long as I get my money, confound it! Insert scene where the baron uses a puppy's head as an ash tray for extra subtlety.

Any 70s-90s kid living in the city with sufficiently negligent parents grew up to believe that America's forests are being clear cut out of pure spite for the spotted owl. After all, Hollywood won't shut the fuck up about it, so it must be a big problem, right?

It wasn't until someone sat down and put together the facts that people stopped thinking the ever-present "desolate, grassless field covered in stumps" scene was real. As soon as the fact that America's forests are growing became quick and easy to demonstrate, the Save The Trees movement died. Well, it didn't die. It was replaced with Muh Old Growth, which is 1/100th the size and nobody really cares because it's harder to draw a scary picture about it. Also because there's very little hard science behind old growth forests actually being any better than any other kind of forest.
I remember Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest.

really the funny thing there was thinking that anyone in a business that cuts down trees would want to kill their business by not also replanting trees so they can...continue to cut down trees and still have a business.

It feels like this scene should be taking place at Wal-Mart.

considering how we've seen business in recent years, i would believe that
next quarter must have more profits than last quarter, forever and ever
don't think of the long term, we need that money now, we really do :stress:

Professional foresters are always bitching, at least offline, that most of America's forests weren't here when Europeans got here and we're really fucking up by keeping them everywhere. It's more nuanced than that, but I am an engineer and can't be bothered to look into it.

I'm a red-blooded green-eyed hillbilly redneck with wop and potato nigger roots. My family came over to the hills and hollers from the Emerald Isle, Ulster Plantation, and rural Italy, not some janky-ass Fiddler on the Roof hymietown shtetl in Eastern Europe like (((yours))) did

Insinuating I'm a filthy kike like (((yourself))) is fighting words.

Care to put your shekels where your mouth is, you hook-nosed faggot?

Looks like a judge in Lancaster, PA is cutting these "protesters" no slack. Welcome to America, shiteaters. Good. And if any of these cocksuckers goes over to Hersheypark and causes trouble, you know what to do.

Pennsylvania judge sets bail for accused rioters at $1M each
by Haley Victory Smith, Breaking News Reporter

| September 15, 2020 03:39 PM

Several individuals accused of rioting in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, after the police shooting of Ricardo Munoz have had their bail set at $1 million.

Of the nine who were given that bail amount, none were able to post it.

Twelve adults have been charged with criminal conspiracy for arson, riot, institutional vandalism, failure to disperse, obstructing highways and other public passages, disorderly conduct, and defiant trespass. Nine of them had their bails set at $1 million. One of the 12 faced an additional charge of illegal possession of a firearm. According to police, at least eight of those charged are not Lancaster residents.

One 16-year-old has been charged with riot, disorderly conduct, possession of instruments of crime, possession of a small amount of marijuana, propulsion of missiles onto a roadway, and institutional vandalism.

The arrests happened early on Monday morning.

An advocacy group called Lancaster Stands Up claimed that two of those charged were working as medics when they were arrested.

The group tweeted, "The absurdly high bail amounts indicate that what we’re seeing is not a measured pursuit of justice but a politically motivated attack on the movement for police reform and accountability."

Protesters have taken to the streets in Lancaster over Munoz's death. The 27-year-old was shot by an officer after he ran toward the officer with a knife. Police said that the officer was responding to a call from Munoz's mother, who claimed her son was trying to break into her house. The family said that Munoz had been suffering from schizophrenia.

So why don't the cops plant new black men every time they kill one?

Where was he hit? Was he wearing a ballistic vest?
