30 bucks for a 126 page novella is steep, hardcover or not.
The 5 minute trailer is, ironically, right out of the 'Fabula Nova Crystallis'-era Square Enix playbook he so brazenly hates. I'd put the actual plot of the book first, and then do the lore-baiting. I get it, you want to market this bigger, more expansive world - but what's the point of making it the first piece people actually see, even though the vast majority of all that shit will not actually make it into this first book?
I can't say it's entirely uninteresting, but it's just pretty funny to see when he talks so much shit about big franchises thinking too much about higher concepts before the beat-beat story and plot. But it was always prone to hypocrisy if he was interested in writing, because having a functional set of fantasy stories within the same world requires some level of world building independent of the basic synopsis.
Also have no idea why he's putting this on his YT name. Can't be for marketing purposes.
All that being said, it's still worth some praise that he's actually followed through with making something of his own. Let's see if it's any good.
