This means that Trump gets one more shot at filling a SCOTUS seat. And the current tally is such that if he gets to fill her seat, it has a conservative majority for the first time in I can't recall how long, but it has been a LONG time.
It is barely 2 months before an election that is likely to be hotly, perhaps violently contested.
This is ENORMOUS.
president appoints supreme court justices, appointments are for life, supreme court is one of the most important law-shaping entities in the country. so an appointment helps shape laws in the country for the next 30-50 years.

It will put the Supreme Court into Republican control for a long time. It might help Trump win the election if it gets really gummed up in resolution, though I though the House was supposed to resolve that?

Worse than that. There are several Republican senators -- Collins, Murkowski, Romney, maybe others -- who are squishes on things like this anytime, and especially now, so there's no certainty about it. This makes it likely that a vote would be after the election. Trump wins, no problem. Trump loses, maybe no problem. I'm sick the fuck to death over the sheer volume of tension this fucking year has piled on us.
