Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died at 87. - 🦀

  • 🔧 Actively working on site again.
it seems awfully suspicious that her death was reported on a Friday night with a month and a half until the election.

Not just any Friday, but on Rosh Hashanah. Which (and please, any Kiwis in the tribe feel free to correct this) apparently means she was "righteous." I have the sneaking suspicion she's been on ice for several days.

Oh, and as someone who had a family member die of this exact same illness, there is no fucking way she was dictating Constitutionally suspect deathbed wishes "a few days ago." She's probably been in deep coma for almost a week.

That would also make the Republicans hypocrites since they were the ones REEEEEEEEEEEEing about not nominating a pick in an election year

It's Mitch McConnell, would you expect a slimy bastard like him not to be a hypocrite? It's comes with the territory of being a senior senator for decades, regardless of party affiliation.

With this added element does this really mean the Dems will try to start a second Civil War should they lose in November?

Depends on whether or not they can keep the seat open long enough to keep it vacant during the election. If Trump and McConnell can get the seat filled before November, it'll be the thing that can be a demoralizing moot point if it's done quickly enough.

Given that she predated Trump, I'd say that can't be the only reason.

True, but a lot of the "cult of personality" surrounding her was very much a post-2016 thing and it got worse after Kavanaugh got on the bench.

After watching the Kavanaugh shit-show, makes me wonder what the Dems are gonna pull this time. Same argument, but twice as many accusers?

If Trump does the obvious move of replacing her with a woman like Barrett or Rao, it'll remove that particular card from play unless one of them turns out to be a closet case or something.

I doubt the GOP could perform an asspull within 45 days for a pick, it could possibly energize the Dems if they force it, but shit just got real for both sides since the election might somehow tangibly mean something worthwhile for either of them in the aftermath. You're gonna see some real partisan slugging now

They just did. McConnell is the kind of guy who will use the nuclear option just to prove a point he made back in the Merrick Garland controversy and get this over and done with ASAP.

Yeah, this year is offically going worse than my worst case scenario.
I've been too optimistic.

Forget gasoline, this is like pouring kerosene, or ultra ignite point jet fuel on an infero and then dropping thermite onto it. If she had died literally several months before or later I would not worry, but this means things might accelerate too fast now.

If you thought the hysteria was bad already.... Jesus Christ.

Agreed and if they can't get it filled before the start of November, I think Trump could be fucked since that will energize Democrat voters and help make any voter fraud efforts more easy and can tip some swing states clean depending on the turnout.

Being the eternal optimist I am (cue the rainbow stickers), there's also a part of me that thinks if they can ram through the nomination process and get it over and done with before November, it can be a major blackpill for the Dems.

This would be more likely if they get it done by early October (and since McConnell announced the proceedings will begin next week, it's possible if they do the nuclear option) and get a small bit of breathing room between the confirmation and the election itself.

Either way, this is going to be a gamechanger and I think this is our October Surprise coming in early.

Rest in Peace, hope she had some good final days after everything.

Hell, Schumer didn't even try to hide it. His first Tweet about it was strictly political before he went, "Oh shit, right... Tonight we mourn the..."
I despise this fucker, not an iota of care in him.

Also seeing Twitter ree is funny and it's always good to remember at max, about 2% of the American populace actively use it so they can state they'll fight all they want but it's up to more than just them.
And despite her wish, what happens if the Senate stays a GOP majority? Can't respect it if they're choices are ones that a certain segment of people don't want. Even if they'd likely be an upstanding justice more than likely, it's not like they pick some random chucklefuck out of nowhere to the seat.

Confirm a Justice, Republicans get a boost for replacing RBG, Democrats get demoralized, losers lose.

Bonus salt points for confirming a person who has been in the public political eye for years with no accusations of anything.

Man or woman doesn't matter.

It has to be a woman.

Any man will be accused of over 9000 rapes.

That's why I said use someone who has been in the public political eye for years without any accusations of anything.

And with a punt ramming a Justice through after Kavanaugh new accusations won't fly with any Republican who wants to hold political office ever again.
