The spectacle can only ever be done once though. They burnt off one of their biggest guns in a hail mary pass back then. it cannot be used again. The Republican senate only has to go "Oh, they did something, is there more proof than kavanaugh? No? Well, we saw how that went, moving on."

It was probably Lisa Murkowski. Cocaine Mitch is likely explaining to her and Susan Collins that the Dems will use Ginsberg to steamroll them as an issue on Election Day, if they leave the seat as an undecided issue. Casting the vote and seating a Justice just triggers a temper tantrum which increases the chances they get re-elected.

I was thinking about this earlier in the year when she was hospitalized.

My theory at the time was that if she were on death's door, her kids would tell the doctors to keep her on life support until after the election, so that she would still be alive in a legal, technical sense.
