Funimation are now openly censoring anime in their Blu-Ray releases.
Azur Lane is a very milqetoast waifu anime based on a mobile cashgrab game. Not exactly fanservice heavy, but they have now apparently decided they have the right to make permanent edits to the physical copies.
Bodes very poorly for anything else they've licensed (read: 90% of anime).
At this point, I'm hoping Funimation gets crushed by the COVID-19 recession the same way a lot of the "old guard" companies like ADV, Geneon, and Central Park Media got wiped out in the late 2000's. Bonus points if Media Blasters still ends up surviving thanks scraping by on old DVD and Blu-Ray sales of Asylum-grade horror B-movies, 90's anime, and old hentai.
If they're actively censoring physical media releases, it will kill them off if the economy is still in the shitter. Especially if they remove subbed options and force dub-only audio and I think at this point, they've gotten petty enough they'd consider doing just that if they felt it would trigger the chuds and own the chuds.
They are so scared of appeals that they are going the 4kids path? This is dumb and hilarious, and I hope they crash and burn.
These people have not learned from their Tsugumomo incident, which was 2 years ago & Funi did the same BS with Tsugumomo again in Feb of this year.I don't think this has anything to do with the appeals. Since they're are now owned by Sony who as of right now are censoring Japanese games for Playstation I feel like its spreading to Funi

For Second Time, Funimation Promises “Uncut” Release of Tsugumomo, Delivers Censored Version Instead - Bounding Into Comics
Funimation has once again disappointed fans by once again promising an unscensored release of Tsugumogo and delivering a censored version instead.

I'm not surprised tbh. But I am really annoyed.
