How do those East Asian cartoons appeal to blacks anyway?

No, but for real, it's one of the few nerdy things you can be into and not be accused of acting white.
 
Mostly shonen shit because a lot like DBZ have shit farther figures just like their own so they relate to it the most.
 
Because it offers great imaginative escapism from the bullshit reality of being born black with almost no advancement oportunities, in a country that hates you inside a shitty little ghetto where rapping, drugs, and shootouts are in the everyday plate.

I think it's similar why there's so many blacks in JRPG communities. The protagonist usually comes from a single mother household, and is introduced while being late for school, sports event, or date with his young gf. If they do come from the normal nuclear family, it's a good bet their small cozy village town will be destroyed shortly.

The question is not really asking the right thing because then I can just ask well why do American whites(or really anyone) like anime? It could be for any number of reasons depending on the genre. The more specific question I want to know that some people in this thread pointed out is why do Shonen anime and fighting games in particular have such a large black demographic?

They make otherwise mundane toys like beyblades or yugioh cards seem cool. Keep in mind that most people in the west are introduced to anime through shows based on toys/trading cards when they are children.

One could posit that the art style is part of the appeal, given how 'exotic' and expressive it is in comparison to western animation. That must be part of the reason why western animation tried to look more 'anime' during the early Oughts.
 
This question should be expanded to "Why do black people in America like Asian shit in general not just anime".
