If Trump gets his pick I imagine there will be even less incentive to vote for a creepy old pervert Biden. I imagine one of the things the Dems had going for them was the urgency of getting in before RBG died.

One thing I'm kinda concerned about is that until RBG's seat is filled, that will take up all of the oxygen in the room. If Durham's report drops, for instance, it won't get nearly the coverage it should. Nor will any other October surprise Trump might drop.

Double-digit inflation and interest rates were fatal, also. Carter was going to lose even without the failed rescue mission.
Carter was leading in the polls for many of the same reasons I think Biden is "leading" now. The media and the Carter campaign was telling people that Reagan was unserious, extremist and crazy, and a war-monger who would blow up the world if he won. Why would swing voters tell a media pollster they were enthusiastic for Reagan? Why would you vote for Word War 3? Some did tell the truth, but many didn't. The "Shy Reagan voter" went into the voting booth and basically said "Fuck You, Jimmy. You suck." The country is more polarized now with fewer undecideds, but I think the principle is similar.
Also, I still think there are enough people who are uncomfortable voting for someone who is clearly weak and ineffectual. Carter was, and people could tell. They had four years of evidence. Biden is weak and ineffectual for a different reason, but I'm hopeful enough people can smell it and recognize it and take it seriously.

Tensions may be higher than they have been in recent decades, but they're nowhere near as high as they were during civil war times, or hell, even during the 1960s. You think political discourse is bad now? Try living in 1968 where actual political figures were being assassinated left and right, and racial tensions were actually at their highest. Trying living during the 1850s where people were actually massacring each other over at what the time was a political ideology which was way more divisive than any kind of bullshit we have today.
You think a bunch slacktivists, and larpers bitching twitter is going to cause a civil war? You don't know what pre-civil war times actually look like. If 1968 didn't cause a civil war, 2020 sure as shit isn't going to cause one either. Get off the computer, turn off the news, get off social media, go outside, and calm down.

SO much better than the initial last week schedule. Trump's campaign is course correcting. And good on him for going to double Pennsylvania this month. It's a potential light red state so he should hit it multiple times in October too.
Worth noting Trump is going to Jacksonville Florida. Keep in mind Duval County has been trending Democratic in recent elections and he might want to fight to keep it as that is where a lot of black votes lie.
No Texas rally please. Trump doesn't have time for that. He's also planning a rally in Virginia (archive). Unless he's getting much bigger black and non-white support than we dream, not sure why he's wanting to stop by there.

Still worth going to though. Trump has more potential to grow his black support than some here realize and that's why he's acting on a swing county.
I think he'll go to a mostly Hispanic county like Miami-Dade or Osceola next month.

Apparently the Hollywood elite and late night TV show hosts are losing their shit over this.
I believe Hollywood in its current form, is the propaganda wing of the Democratic Party if ANTIFA/BLM are the paramilitary wing. All these rich fucks who have nothing to fear from any president and most of them too old to give a fuck, are actually giving a fuck about one supreme court seat because RGB was too arrogant to leave when Obama told her that they could find a suitable younger replacement back in the day.
Also Nancy Pelosi is also thinking of impeachment 2.0 now just to stop Trump from nominating a judge.

On that topic, wonder if People’s Pundit has any thoughts on the Primary Model? I imagine he’d be sympathetic to it, even if it’s not as rigorous as his polling methodology.

I think RBG's death happened when it was announced but it's possible that Trump had a tip that she was taking a turn for the worse and that he should prepare a list of court nominees. People have been expecting her death for years now.
I think he's planning a Virginia rally because a lot of people are pissed at Ralph Northam and the NoVAcrats, including many older non-whites. I think if the furor over the Dems and the BLM riots that more or less shattered Richmond (one of the two biggest strongholds of Democrat support in the state alongside the DC suburbs in NoVA) is strong enough, then Trump has a shot at flipping Virginia one last time, especially if black voter turnout is low enough.
I think that's part of why the Virginia courts have been doing everything they can to keep Kanye off the ballot since he could get a lot of younger black voters and Millennials of all races to not vote for Biden and instead act as a spoiler candidate in Trump's favor.
