Thank you so much, cuddle striker, getting a glimpse into the thoughts of a medical professional who is working directly with her is both heartbreaking and very informative. I hope that people viewing this thread can stay respectful with this information so that if there are any more updates we can be privvy to them, rather than running this poor fellow underground.
What possible reason could she have for doing this? Is she just carving scabs off to expose the bone again and make it look more severe for her followers?
There are a few reasons, for example as you mentioned it's to make them look worse, it's probably also to weaken the bone in hopes of a break but I think the root reason is probably a lot simpler and a lot more stupid than most would hope.
Unlike most munchies, Kelly does not research a condition and then do her best to mimic the symptoms, she simply does something and complains about the outcome until someone else strings it all together for a diagnosis.
This is also why she has so many aborted "storylines"; the dots didn't end up connecting in any way so she just dropped it. To me it seems like the bone scraping (bleh) is just another example of this; she already has the world's most rarest and destructive form of "bechets" ever, so why not get a bit more mileage out of it? What if something started happening to
her bones?
All this "reasoning" would take only a few seconds, maybe a minute, before she's already chipping or scraping away, imagining what the doctors and/or nurses will say when they see the results. The only reasonable explanation is that she's doing it to herself, sure, but if she denies it then they'll have to run more tests and more tests until they come up with
something and then she can leech on to that and forget this whole bechets thing!
It's dangerous, it's stupid, and it's something she's done many times before. The first example that comes to mind was when she was complaining about a "lip thing" (I think she said she couldn't feel her lips or something, she wasn't very descriptive) and no one paid attention to that so she instead ripped out one of her own fillings. She probably hoped someone could connect the two somehow but since no one did she just dropped the "lip thing" and presumably went to the dentist.
Remember they always have to be finding something new or the game is over, and once the game is over she has to face the reality of having a destroyed body, no friends, no family and no hobbies.
Once that happens, well, it'll only be a matter of time before her cat gets "sick" again, I'm sure.
I was thinking about that news story this morning. I wonder who called in that story idea to the station (obviously kelly) and if the attention she got from that really fueled the beginning of her munching? If they never ran that feel good fluff story I wonder if Kelly wouldn't be as bad as she is now (I know press X for doubt).
Oh 100% Kelly called it in herself or convinced someone around her to, and nah, she would be right where she is now with or without that piece I think. I mean, the doctor's were "baffled" because she was already bloodletting, and her escalations from there seem pretty well timed with a decline in interest in that. If anything, I think if she could have kept up interest through more pieces like this and her red cross advert and all that shit she actually
wouldn't have felt the need to outdo that with a rare diagnosis, and then escalate again when attention from that ran out and so forth and so forth until we ended up where we are today.
