Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died at 87. - 🦀

Now if you want to combine term limits with the destruction of the 17th Amendment, I'd pull up a chair and listen to that argument all day, even though we're probably starting to piss off the people who just came here to hear about some dead lady.
I am on board with this.

Term Limits would kill the two party system, that alone would make it a great idea.

The impotent rage of a defeated cuck.

Wonder if they'll try and use this to stop the SCOTUS nomination.

FUCKING RETARD!

Schumer, why would you use this NOW? You just reminded the Republicans it exists, now they'll factor it in when it comes to the nomination.

Can you fucks not keep your powder dry for ten fucking minutes!?

Yup. The proper time to use this would have been when they went to do the vote, causing them to waste a day or two on it. They could have found all kinds of other things to fuck around with this week, or did research on tricks they could use alongside this.

One thing I hope McConnell uses is that one senate rule that forces the cameras off. (+ empties the viewing hall, I believe?) No letting them posture and pontificate for their base. Forget the name of it, but I remember they once used it during the Obama era(?) and it pissed the people at DailyKOS off for a while.

Not possible. Cocaine Mitch can call for a vote at any time. The Senate doesn't even need to hold hearings. The Democrats are full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

But if he does call for an intelligence hearing just as a formality, they could use this to disrupt it?

McConnel has said he wants to go through the full process. Politically, this is the riskier but more more beneficial and secure route. It removes a lot of the air from the democrats sails and ensures no one can disagree on procedure. Just hot air.

So, yes. They can pull this stunt with the Intelligence Committee. Methinks Cocaine Mitch should be figuring out real quick the restrictions on this. Like, if they fulfill the letter of the rules but the DNC fuck around and delay for 2 hours, does the committee have to end for the day?

Edit: Sounds like they just have to make sure to do it IMMEDIATELY at the start of the day. So how could the DNC fuck with them? "Oh, the DNC members of the intelligence committee are caught in traffic, they'll be here soon, you can't start till they're here... Oh wait, it's 2 hours in, whoopsy doodle, we'll have to try again tomorrow. *smug smug smug*"

Really the problem is not lobbyists, those have always existed, but rather the politician-lobbyist revolving door where insiders sell their pre-existing political networking to various interests.
When a Senator or Representative leaves office, they should be banned from any future lobbying work.
Part of the problem is that every measure taken to regulate lobbying has always ended up favouring the wealthy and large organisations, who have the funds to spend on compliance with the rules. This has has turned lobbying into a semi-professional interface between corporate groups and politicians, whilst cutting out actual constituents and individuals, or small groups, with genuine concerns and issues they want to raise.

But that's probably the point.

Sadly, for them, that'd not work. There is one more member of the republicans on said committee than democrats. They could hold the vote and pass it regardless of the democrats being there.

I still don't understand the polls are showing Trump is low with subarn women. That's one thing I don't get.

Way would subarn moms want Biden a man who is clearly suffering from dementia, whos own VP nominee called him a racist and sexist a year ago. Who is afraid to call out the BLM and Antifa riots.

I really home this makes Surbarn women wake up.

Or the polls are lieing

You pick which one. Is true.

Ah, so they don't have to have a certain number to make quorum?

1/3rd. So yeah, the Democrats can't screw them that way. So the trick is going to be next Monday immediately upon starting they'll have the intelligence committee stuff to avoid their little game.

They watch MSNBC and CNN. They did a poll a while back -- every demographic recognized the economy was doing great before Covid... except MSNBC viewers. THEY thought the economy was in the toilet.

MSNBC literally is preaching an alternate reality to the left.

This is why it baffles me they blew this particular shot so early. Every single day matters for this, they had something that could significantly delay it and.... utterly shot their load early for NO gain.

The possibility of just holding a vote with no hearings did occur to me. The problem is the media will whine it is illegitimate. The case for that becomes a lot harder if the Republicans tried to hold hearings but Democrats stopped them.

Of course, this isn't true in all cases. I wouldn't want the Supreme Court to be elected/, and I wouldn't want the electoral college eliminated (unless there's a better way of giving voice to people outside big cities). You can't have direct democracy for everything, or else the country would become California and I would Minecraft myself. But there's a risk of going too far in the other direction.

All this talk of direct democracy and the SCOTUS gave me an idea.

You keep the SCOTUS as is except that rather than the justices voting directly they present their expert opinions to the public and the public votes. Imagine a TV show called 'America's Court' with loads of patriotic shit like eagles soaring, monster trucks with US flags, policemen fighting rioters, and gun camera footage from Wikileaks 'collateral murder' video in the intro, intercut with WWE style promo shots of the justices. Each episode would cover one case, with the justices making their arguments, and then it would be handed to a public vote by text message. Donald Trump Jr would present for now but obviously, when Trump Sr leaves the presidency he'd take over.

All the wrastlin', flags, eagles, and violence is to try to make the audience more based and to make leftists tune out.

I'm not sure if it's necessarily a better way to do things, but I know I'd be more engaged in the Supreme Court process under your proposal.

I know people say the left can't meme, but the DNC really doesn't understand that you can't really force "meme magic" or whatever Trump had in 2016 that appealed to 4Chan.

The problem is that memesmithery is a very hard to master art. Rather than allowing the visuals or single phrase do the job for you (as a lot of memes do) the left cannot help themselves and have to put in walls of text to get whatever moralizing point across they want to do. They can't do a simple visual gags, or if they do, it's very bland, idiotic shit that's instantly forgettable.

The DNC, at one point just like other political parties in the west tried recruiting various memesmiths to the roles, but have made the consistent, critical mistake of weeding out the shitposters that would've made their game effective and messaging efficient.

The problem is further compounded when you consider that the Dems own positions on issues changes daily, as it does in the UK's own Labour Party.

You have to hire a shitposter who will be like a rapier. Efficient, swift and surgical in their strikes. The Dems just think machetes work anywhere and everywhere for all jobs, and so hire yet more wall-posters, or ideologically pure grunts who wouldn't know humour if it slapped them across the face with a fucking pike.

Babylon Bee is having some fun with this.

Link to full article which is well worth the read.
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Since Trump has vowed to nominate a woman to the Supreme Court, his shortlist of candidates had been reduced to just a few highly female judges. Signs were initially pointing to Amy Coney Barrett, but a new candidate has emerged from the shadows as a new front-runner for the coveted nomination: Tedina Cruzette.

"I had never heard of this Tedina before," said Trump. "But she is very, very female which is important, so important. She doesn't have much of a judicial track record, but she seems like a really smart cookie. Loves America. Loves our veterans and law enforcement. And she's not bad looking either! I know I can't say that but some people are saying it, you know. Not bad looking!" Trump then made the "curve" gesture with his hands.

Miss Cruzette is a Cuban-American legal expert from Texas. She is reportedly well-known by her peers as a real actual female and also an expert in all kinds of law stuff, as well as a totally huge fan of the Constitution. "Oh, I just adore the Constitution," said Cruzette before coughing loudly and clearing her throat. "Oops! I'm sorry my voice sounds a little funny. I've been a little under the weather, darling. I simply can't wait to accept Mr. Trump's fancy nomination and do all kinds of lovely things for America!"

Critics are concerned by Cruzette's thin judicial record and some have reported being a little freaked out that she walks around awkwardly with what appears to be a MyPillow stuffed in her dress.

"Oh that ain't no pillow, that's just me darling!" Cruzette said with a flirty grin to reporters yesterday. The interview was cut short, however, when Joe Biden attempted to sneak up behind her and sniff her hair.

@Null are highlights broken in this thread?

I'm not sure if it's necessarily a better way to do things, but I know I'd be more engaged in the Supreme Court process under your proposal.

I think you can make a case for it in political science terms. Matthew Goodwin famously observed that an out of touch elite has built institutions which the majority of people see as illegitimate, leading the rise of National Populists across the democracies. Now up to this point, the elite has tried to disparage individual National Populist politicians and causes in the hope the problem will go away. This is short-sighted and the National Populist thesis cannot be answered by an elite antithesis. Rather a synthesis should be attempted.

My proposal essentially places direct democratic checks and balances above an institution which is perhaps the best American example of one where an out of touch elite pushes their values up above the democratic system to institutions where those values can no longer be challenged.

Essentially you'd go from

Fig. 1
Countersignalling layered groups diagram (CLGD) before the proposed reform
Fuckn Skeksis scum
Based plebes

to

Fig. 2
CLGD after the proposed reform. The added layer is marked in bold
More based plebes, lol
Fuckn Skeksis scum
Based plebes

As you say this would increase engagement by reassuring citizens that their values were represented higher up the CLG stack than those of the Skeksis.
