For real, though - have any of them done the elementary work of actually surveying the African Americans living in Seattle if fewer police are what they actually want? Because as the people most affected by gangs, domestic abuse, robberies et al., I would imagine most of the ordinary African Americans would like more police presence, not less. The councillors want to talk about being on "the right side of history", I'm picturing the day when people look back at when publicly funded police were taken away from African American communities and wealthier Middle and Upper Middle class people were able to afford privatised, local law enforcement to fill the gap. Basically withdrawing financial support from poor neighbourhoods under the guise of helping them.
Realistically they will be buying up property in the city when prices fall to then make money from renting it to residents and ultimately (they expect) selling it for huge profit when there's some "revitalisation" project that gentrifies the neighbourhood.
