That’s one theory. More likely is that he couldn’t imagine not being enslaved to substances so had no choice but to tell himself they worked for him. Then he blew his brains out. Enslavement isn’t a lifestyle choice; it’s how people live when they know no other way to get through the day.
Except the quote and his suicide are decades apart. And judging by his works, they did work for him. It's literally a clear conclusion multiple people here have come to. Will it work for you? Probably not. Me? I know it doesn't.
It should be noted Why he killed himself. According to his 2nd wife and adult son, in his later years he began to have a massive volume of health problems because of the years of drug abuse. Whether or not he was even addicted, which is up for debate because it's not like he'd ever wanted or tried to stop anyways. The fact is it did fuck up his body. Another reason, albeit an obscure conspiracy theory, is that he was killed because he had proof 9/11 was an inside job. It was something he called from the first second and had written about short thereafter and was investigating on and off since. This is largely due the fact that his son's story (H.S.T. was at home in his study, his son and grandkids playing on the other room). According to his son, he heard what sounded like something drop and it wasnt until HST's wife arrived from a shopping trip hours later that she found him dead. But then he changed his story saying he did hear a gunshot but sporadic gunfire wasn't cause for concern at the Owl Ranch. Which, maybe, sure. But what's also weird was Hunter calling his wife's cellphone shortly before killing himself and saying nothing before hanging up again.
Also this: "Juan Thompson found his father's body. According to the police report and Anita's cell phone records, he called the sheriff's office half an hour later, then walked outside and fired three shotgun blasts into the air to "mark the passing of his father". The police report stated that in Thompson's typewriter was a piece of paper with the date "Feb. 22 '05" and a single word, "counselor".
As weird as Hunter was, his son Juan, is a stick in the mud who wrote a book crying about how Hunter was an abusive maniac (which he probably was in all honestly). Who is "counselor", which Counselor? Of what? Things are not as simple as lmao drug slave.
