I know I've talked about it before, but I'm gonna again advise that anyone interested in false memory and how people may be led to believe they have MPD/DID to look up the Patricia Burgus case (here's an awesome documentary on it). She went to therapy for postpartum depression and ended up being led to believe that she was the victim of satanic ritual abuse through drugs, hypnosis, and other tactics. They even got her kids convinced. She ended up winning a $10 million lawsuit, but that doesn't truly make up for the years lost to this whole charade.
This form of DID is called iatrogenic, meaning that its origin is caused by a healthcare provider. It's really important to note that people who often speak out against SRA and repressed memory therapy can receive A LOT of hateful messages. Dr. Loftus (False memory specialist) talks about having armed guards at her speeches. They're hyper defensive. Also, most of these cases have high elements of fantasy, supernatural, and things that are literally impossible. Despite all the evidence (or, rather, lack thereof) these people will uphold these beliefs for years, decades even.
Here's a good lecture on Iatrogenic DID.
I just went through versions of the SDQ-20 and DES with someone with BPD. They don’t have DID, but scored well above the threshold on both.
I don’t know enough about the SCID-D to know how the interview might go but these things are so general and vague that it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that a bit of pushing could get a patient over the line to scoring for DID or DDOS.
So what if you don’t remember your trauma? You’ve been diagnosed by a professional!
