As someone who's been sober for several years now, I see this attitude all the time in newcomers. It's my mom's fault I shot dope, it's society's fault I smoke crack, it's the police's fault I went to jail, etc. The ones who think like this always relapse pretty fucking quickly.

The same people who blame the world for their misery then believe themselves incapable of escaping it. They feed themselves the lie of victimhood while holding the keys to their own cell. I see the same thing with many of these rioters. If the effort they spent attacking everything around them was spent on building meaningful lives, they would probably be okay.
