The ending of the last season just seemed too optimistic when they pretended like jazz was just going to go to college. too optimistic that jazz would be able to fit in. too optimistic that would even pass any of the classes. too optmistic that even if jazz had people cheat for jazz that jazz could even be a lawyer with a faked education. and that was right before corona virus.

On some tiny level, I feel for Noelle in that I know how awful isolation and loneliness can be on a person. Everyone craves attention and approval and it's sad to see someone being ignored by the rest of the world to the point where it emotionally cripples them.

That said, Noelle also isolates himself by being unpleasant, narcissistic, and completely foolish when it comes to the real world or people. He would likely reject a lot of potential friends out of A.) Physical jealousy, B.) His stupid politics, or C.) His inability to empathize with anyone other than himself. Jazz at least demonstrates some level of compassion and empathy for others, even if it's in his own stunted, childish way. Noelle just seems to be a very negative, very insecure person with a lot of room for improvement but can't figure out that giving is better than taking. It's really depressing to think about, especially now that he's more isolated than ever and, unlike Jazz who has nepotism and media publicity, he'll likely be pushed farther and farther away from the rest of the world.

The only thing going on here is that on some level Noelle’s brain is desperately trying to protect him from reality. And the reality is that he was a healthy, attractive young man who got caught up in a modern hysteria and mutilated his genitals and he will never, ever “pass.” But this is unbearable. And so, his dysmorphic delusion regarding what a woman even looks like is extending to the rest of the world.

I believe it was confirmed somewhere that last season was the "final" series of "I Am Jazz". Hence why this thread moved.

Iirc there was the quack who did hypnotherapy or past life analysis or something or other. You know, the tragic episode when Jazz claimed that in a past life he was a gay man who just wanted to be himself but was rejected by his family and he started crying. Idk how anyone can watch that episode and not immediately get what’s up.

A bit generic notice, but it's the kind of notice you get when a show is in limbo.

Jazz being a mess isn't an impediment for them to keep going with the show. btw. They keep going even after his vagina actually exploded, why would they stop now when his life has no meaning? A lot of editing here and there and it looks like Jazz's going through the normal tribulations of a teenager... despite he's 20.

Holy shit Jeanette is such a monster. Imagine letting your kid get Mengele'd and then acting so smug and surprised that they have issues. It's actually hard to watch how badly Jeanette stokes the flames for Jazz to melt down in this video even after Jazz has calmed herself. Notice also, how Jeanette wants Jazz to go to therapy clearly because Jeanette is not happy with Jazz's behavior and wants someone to fix it up for her (like how Dr. Jesting "fixed up" her gay son for her with SRS). You can see it in Jazz's reaction, she's so frustrated like "you made me into this, why are you acting like you have no idea why I develop issues." Jazz is probably sick of professionals telling her who she is and how she thinks, and is terrified by the idea that she might realize certain things about herself and her mother through therapy.

Jeanette is right about therapy, though. She's right when she says she can't help Jazz with his issues and his depression is a black hole they can't deal with it. Their problem is that they're looking for a therapist that confirms all of their biases. If she had taken Jazz to a normal therapist years ago, he wouldn't have chopped his dick.

And Jazz' reaction is, I agree, a defence mechanism. He knows deep inside he doesn't want to be told they all made a mistake. But it's also his millenial bratty attitude surfacing. He's saying what any ordinary tumblerina would tell you: "no, a doctor doesn't know me in the way I know myself!". They think they understand cancer better than oncologists.

If Jeannette really wants to help her child, he doesn't need therapy, he needs to first solve his rude behavior, trans or not. The other kids aren't like this, so she isn't a complete failure as a parent, she did something right with the other three who seem well behaved and normal.

They are well behaved, but I doubt they are normal. I know this dynamic very well from psych literature and people I've met who grew up in such families. I'll put most of the sperg under a spoiler, but the tl;dr version is that narcissistic parents intentionally use favortism with their kids maintain control over everyone in the home. They parent the favored and unfavored kids in completely different ways and they all end up incredibly fucked up, just in opposite ways.

the favored kid the golden child, and the other kids are called scapegoats.

Jazz was raised as a golden child, the kid that can do no wrong, but the cost of that is never getting to have appropriate personal boundaries with the mother, never getting to be seen for who they are outside of their similarities to their parent. The parent makes it very clear that jazz is only loved as long as he reflects back what Jeannette values about herself. The narcissistic mother sees the golden child as a mini-me, or as an idealized version of themselves, if the kid deviates from that is seen as being hurtful on purpose by their parent. That kid is allowed to be a brat because the parent is allowed to be a brat, and believing that you are special and above the rules is a diagnostic criteria of NPD. Sometimes the golden child gets demoted and another kid gets the title instead as a form of punishment.

The scapegoats are to blame for anything that goes wrong in the family, including anything that upsets the narcissistic parent or their favorite child. Sometimes some of the kids aren't exactly the scapegoat but clearly aren't favored, they get "benign" neglect, sometimes all the non GCs are scapegoated, it depends on the family. There is always one child that is treated worse than all others, it really seems like Ari in the bloshinsky family, and that keeps the other non favorite kids on their toes for fear of becoming the worst kid. The scapegoat children walk on eggshells and are feel inferior to the favored kid, also feel jealous of them, while the golden child is extremely isolated and has no one to confide in about their feelings about the parent. This is a very good way to keep the kids from developing close relationships with one another, otherwise they could potentially compare notes & blame parents. Everyone comes out of this situation extremely damaged and isolated.

So that's what she did differently with the other kids, and that's why they aren't huge brats. It wasn't right though. She neglected them emotionally and made them care for their parent, and care for jazz as well. The scapegoat children are often extremely good at taking care of others, but struggle to take care of themselves, and tend to have extremely low self esteem. They spent their formative years on red alert for any emotional suffering in others and tried (with limited success, being kids) to care for their dysfunctional parent, they carry that experience of feeling totally responsible for others and also essentially incompetent into adulthood. These are the types of people that many narcissists end up marrying as adults, since normal people don't put up with their shit for too long. I have heard a lot of stories of families like jeannettes, with an appearance obsessed NPD mom, and the scapegoat kids reported having to wear underwear that was way too old and full of holes or held together with safety pins, but their parents would pick out expensive (external) clothing and haircuts for all their kids because it was something that others would see. Their usefulness was only what the parent could see, and what the parent cared about.
