The first episode of Magical Girl Friendship Squad (a SyFy show we talked about quiet a while ago) just came out and omg....it's so baaad.

The animation is very blocky and cheap looking, the dialogue and humor is cringe as fuck (the girls literally dab after they transform), the whole thing is (almost) 12 minutes long but it felt like 12 hours.
The two main characters are jobless, can't pay rent and all around slobs (based on their apartments) and one of the villains is a white, feminine, vegan(?), probably gay guy. The whole story is very cliché (basically evil guy wants to destroy the planet).
The transformation sequence is a rip-off of reference to the Sailor Moon transformation and the magical girl outfits are...I think they tried to make fun of magical girl outfits by making it "slutty" and the transformation sequence very sexual but it fails because the magical girl genre is mainly aimed at little girls so the outfits are usually frilly and cute (unless you count Kill la Kill which you shouldn't because it's not "magical girl" but action-comedy). The only magical girl with a revealing outfit I can think of right now is Cutie Honey and even her outfit is tame in comparison. The sexualized transformation is kinda fair but those mainly appear in animes aimed at boys or an older audiences like Flip Flappers, Magical Girl Raising Project (but that's mainly sexual outfit wise and even then it's tame in comparison) and such.

Wow. That animation style does NOT work with the art. The stiff tweening on redhair's neck made mine hurt just from looking. Also their walk cycles look off, and the speed they move across the screen versus the times their feet make contact with the ground don't match at all, as if they're sliding on ice at all times.

This feels like it was made by someone who watched that fan re-animated version of an old episode of Sailor Moon and decided that made them qualified to make a parody of the whole genre.

I don’t even like magical girls and this comes off as aggravatingly smug.

God, the protagonists are incredibly unlikable.

Calling it now though, that antagonist is gonna get the most unironically-attractive fanart by people who like his design, if for no other reason than because he's a tall bishounen-type with a turtleneck and a popped collar.

Assuming anyone will actually want to show their support for this show. Why do they walk like thaaaaat

The antagonist on the other hand looks like it's trying to be an Onceler-type that the tumblr fangirls will latch onto. But he'll probably just fade into obscurity.
This is Tumblr, tho. These people have no taste in waifus and husbandos.
Well this theory checks out then.

OK, I had no idea people wanted to fuck the triangle.

Have you not seen the amount of fan art of him, where they draw him as an eye-patched twink? Back in the old days, people on Tumblr either had a crush on him or they shipped him with Dipper...

The quality of the artworks was mostly good at least.

(I actually really love this design. Not really Bill like but it's nice.)

Cute. Ikimaru in particular does a good job of making tumblr-bait takes on characters:

More under the cut because it's not hideous and therefore off-topic.
"Gentle" eyes, soft features, etc. Everyone ends up looking tired and like they need a hug.

That's funny, because Bill Cipher's "canon" human form definitely isn't handsome at all, according to creator Alex Hirsch. (Screenshot from his charity stream, which he co-hosted with Dana Terrace.)

He's also jokingly agreed that his "canon" humanization would resemble Steve Urkel.
