Trump Derangement Syndrome - Orange man bad. Read the OP! (ᴛʜɪs ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴅ ɪs ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴋɪᴡɪ ғᴀʀᴍs ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡs ɴᴏᴡ) 🗿🗿🗿🗿

I won't bother going through twitter but damn they are seething that Trump is receiving a third noble peace prize nomination to the point a Leftwing MP nominated Joe for one in a clear desperate attempt to be like "SEE JOE HAS A NOBLE PRIZE NOMINATION TOO!"
That's because their calls of "is it time to extinguish the Nobel Prize?" fell on deaf ears when Trump got his first nomination. Despite Obama winning a Peace Prize for literally no reason, Joe Public still sees the Nobel Price as a very prestigious institution. So Joe Public saw those headlines and went "wtf, you guys crazy?!". And so the media scurried along to the next nontroversy.

Once Trump is out of office the media and others will drop most talk of him except to lament the damage done and how great it is the new Democrat in office is fixing some stuff, but they can't do everything they need because of some new Republican figure. Look back on how Colbert's audience switched from loving how James Comey was fired to hating it, Colbert along with most Dems (and his audience) are just along with hating whatever is hip at that exact moment to hate. Their camp has a very short memory and it won't make sense politically to keep up the steady stream of hate towards a president that isn't even in office.

As he enjoys retiring from the presidency, we may even get some puff pieces remarking on the humorous nature of Trump's love of golf or Barron's soccer playing as he works his way towards college. Trump and his family will have become just funny oddities the way past presidents usually are.

Then, some wise guys might troll Colbert and co. with memes showing Trump saying "Miss me yet?" just like the ones featuring George W. Bush as a way to talk about Obama's performance.

Problem with flat tax is that it benefits only the rich because they have more money than the poor/middle class, who get fucked by the flat tax percentage HARD since they can't a hit and survive if they lose a huge chunk of their income to taxes (whereas it's always a drop in the bucket if you are a rich person paying a flat tax). It's why the ultra rich keep pushing that shit, because it's the ultimate "fuck you" gambit to trick people into thinking you are taxing everyone equally but actually fucking the poor and middle class in the ass with no lube by making them be the ones fronting 1/3 to a full 1/2 of their income to Uncle Sam in practice.
I wish you would share with the class what you're smoking.

All you do is just add a threshold for the flat tax - duh. Anyone making X and up - pay Y%.

Besides how the hell are you going to lose 1/2 your income if you're not paying 50% tax? i.e. Go with the meme "if 10% is good enough for God, it should be good enough for the government." You make $100? You owe $10. You make $50? You owe $5. Even if you make $10, you owe $1. At no point are you going to lose 1/3 to 1/2 of your income unless that's what the percentage is set at.

And let's put it this way: If you make taxes too high, then it becomes a big incentive for the well off to cheat (and I mean ACTUALLY cheat on taxes, not just using loopholes) because then you're getting a substantial reward from it. If the tax is flat, revenue tends to go up because then it's not that much of a gain to risk cheating, so people just go ahead and pay.

I think they worded themselves poorly. It's not income that people lose disproportionately, it's what they have left after expenses. When you earn 1.5k a month and end the month with 150 bucks to your name, a 10% income tax hurts you a lot more than if you earned 5k a month and ended the month with 3k in your account. Living expenses don't scale linearly with income at the lowest levels, so flat taxes work great when everybody earns enough to be comfortable.

I have to disagree with this greatly. Nothing about the response to Trump during his presidency has been normal, I don't expect it to become normal when he leaves office. Joy Reid last week tweeted something to the effect that when the 'nightmare' is over they'll have to 'do something' about the 'trumpists'. These people will continue their attempts to destroy this man, his family, his friends, and anyone who supported him. They don't just want him out of office, they want to punish him for threatening their power and want to make sure it never happens again.
Eh, you go back and looked Bush 2, Trump isn't that exceptional. The largest change is that social media now gives us the ability to catalog every random voter's opinions causing an amplification effect. They may try punishing the voters, but Trump will be replaced by a new boogey man as soon as the next republican runs for office.

Taxes are taken out up front now, why wouldn't the flat tax?

And "earns enough to be comfortable" is an insane standard because of the hedonic treadmill. Minimum wage, right now earns more than enough money to live with comforts and luxuries greater than the kings of medieval europe. When the biggest problem among your poor is obesity, that's a good sign you've hit post scarcity. You can go to places in the world right now and see what real, true crushing poverty is like - what humanity went through for most of our existence. And 99.99% of America ain't it (even including the most remote corner of Appalachia).

So what's holding us back from a flat tax?

Political will and the fact that for a lot of people the only change to the tax system they want is either the complete abolishment of it, or even more taxes.

Also, I think the largest cities in the country need to collapse before we can have a decent conversation about minimum wage on the national level. You cannot live on minimum wage anywhere near where I work, but just a few hours down the road from where I live you start finding smaller towns where there's less opportunity and fewer high-paying jobs, but you can actually make a reasonable living with just one minimum wage job. The concentration of wealth and people (and political power, for that matter) in large cities is insane.

Well yes the obvious answer of what's stopping it - I meant philosophically.

And you also point out well why a national minimum wage is a bad idea - because the dollar isn't equal in all places. (This is also why purchasing power is often an important stat for comparing places and societies.)

I'm starting to legitimately think we're stuck in a time loop with all these "bombshell reports" that are just the same thing they tried using before.

Also, while having to dig through r/politics for screencaps I found this "news story" which was a top post there for a while. Not even going to bother reading the actual article because the title, who the fuck cares what some random mayor in Canada thinks.

What would a Canadian know about decline? They never experienced greatness or glory to fall from.

What's funny is that I've seen Canadians tweet about burning down Congress if Ginsburg replacement gets nominated before the election. And I'm just like "Bro, you don't live here. What gives you the right to tell Americans what to do in their own country?"

I mean if Canadians are allowed to dictate American elections, then Americans should do the same with the Canadians and their elections.

They've burned down the White House once and they've been riding that high ever since.

It's kind of interesting that they get so salty about being defined by their proximity to America, and yet when it comes down to it they seem like they don't even see themselves as an independent country, but rather as an unofficial US territory. The Poutine State.

"Watching the decline of the Roman empire" I'm going to assume this leaf meant the Western empire which mainly collapsed from unending barbarian invasions...what modern people would call refugees, once the vandals took Tunisia that was it for Western Rome now they had not enough food to feed people.

Eastern Rome lasted for another 1000 years and the HRE the spiritual successor to Western Rome was only dissolved around 200 years ago during the Napoleonic wars.

This is a bunch of words that really mean that Canadian Mayor doesn't know history enough to make a accurate comparison.

In fairness, the HRE had become little more than a glorified Germany by the 15th century. Efforts to keep it the dominant European power had long suffered due to the political instability of the realm.
