It is recommended to maintain a real name profile where you talk about "safe" shit like pumpkin spice. But apparently even that is not good enough.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with having a social media profile. Just don't post anything incriminating, too personal, or embarrassing and you're good. If something as harmlessly inoffensive as liking pumpkin spice is the "most embarrassing" thing on your social media, then what's the issue? People use sites for normal socializing like you would in real life, or connect with family or other people for mundane hobbies and interests. Just avoid anything illegal or worthy of losing your job over.
