If it's still a local level trial, this could be a factor for the judge to dismiss the most serious of the charges before the trial itself since the jury pool would be so tainted.

Now I do think Kyle will be found guilty of the misdemeanor weapons charge for sure, and the serious charges would all depend on the judge in question viewing the evidence and whether or not he dismisses those charges. If the case gets bumped to federal level, then Kyle's probably fucked and will be made an example of.

If it's taken to federal court I'd expect a withdrawal of charges on the order of the AG. I dont see what pretext there is for transferring jurisdictions from state to federal except taking the rifle across state lines and that's such a minor charge compared to the others I cant see a judge signing off on moving everything to federal court over it.
