The closest in recent history for the United States is probably '68 although it was missing the kung flu. Race riots that saw tanks deployed to major cities. Rising violent crime and the beginnings of an economic downturn that would see cities turned into crime filled wastelands. Social unrest from Vietnam. There was plenty of doomers calling it the end of the US.

It's possible, Boris is two decades younger but is obese and is also an alcoholic. Trump doesn't smoke or drink, so that is a point in his favor. It's also possible the virus might be mutating into a less lethal form.

Yep, I was in my teens at the times, and I recall like every pop punk band circle jerking over their mutual hatred of Dubya and the War in Iraq. Before social media was a thing, I used to post on gaming message boards like IGN and GameSpot, and like 2/3rds of the users had anti-Dubya avatars like bad Photoshop of him as a monkey or Pinocchio. In 2004, I wasn't quite old enough to vote yet, but my older friends were diehard Kerry fanboys who kept flaunting some cringey shit on Xanga and MySpace about kicking the GOP out of the White House by using the DNC donkey kicking the elephant. One of my older brothers was a Gen-Xer who forced me to watch a bunch of these shitty anti-Dubya videos on some site like break.com or eBaums World, and he was big Michael Moore fan too who tried to get me to watch Bowling For Columbine with him. BDS was just early TDS indeed, and we can blame Twitter for amplifying it to 11.

True, but at least with Bush, the mainstream media treated him with kid gloves for most of his first term thanks to 9/11. Michael Moore was actually shouted down by Hollywood for criticizing the invasion of Iraq at the 2003 Academy Awards. It wasn't until after Saddam Hussein was captured at the end of 2003 and the Battle of Fallujah and the Abu Ghraib leaks in 2004 that the public opinion and media fully turned against the Iraq War.

It helps that Bush was an objectively bad president whose administration heralded the "eternal wars in the Middle East" and the surveillance state. His first year in office gave us 9/11 and the Dot Com bust while his last year gave us the Great Recession. Dubya's ties to the Religious Right and being an arch-neocon did him no favors and helped shape the nature of the "Current Year" culture war and the divide between coastal blue cities and the flyover states.

To be honest, I'm still scared and confused and I'm not even sure what all can be trusted and what is just a lot of cope or demoralization tactics

From all the other cases of covid I've followed, it takes awhile to build up the momentum to kill you, even if you are older. I remember watching the 80 year old guy from England with diabetes who got it and almost died, but he had days and days of just the cough level screaming at his youtube viewers that it was just the AC. Trump wouldn't catch covid, be up walking around and then die in two days. It's just not that fast acting, these libs are jumping the gun.

Could Trump die? Certainly, but covid basically sets up for a week or two with mild symptoms before it motherfucks you. The news should definitely have waited at least five days before they started the rumormongering that Trump is dying, unless they wanted to claim he's already had covid for like a week with no one noticing even though his health's been monitored.

He repeatedly dodged "has he ever been on oxygen?" with "he's not on oxygen now/today." If you put all his answers together, it's like a weirdly specific logic puzzle.

His final quote: "Thursday no oxygen. None at this moment. And yesterday with the team, while we were all here, he was not on oxygen."

Sounds like someone either gave it to him briefly for some reason, or the doctor said no and the nurse/aid did it anyways by mistake, or he asked for it and they gave it to him to keep him happy. Or he asked for it to see if it made him feel better, and when it didn't he said take it away.
