A day before the Breonna Taylor decision last month, a top official in the
far-left city of Portland, Oregon, published an op-ed for the city’s official website attacking the U.S. Constitution and its amendments because they’re allegedly bad for black people.
Markisha Smith, Ed.D., the director of Portland’s Orwellian Bureau of Equity and Human Rights,
claimed that the “words of the Constitution are being used to allow hate speech, acts of violence, and seemingly harmless flags to fly.”
By “harmless flags,” she meant the pro-Trump flags that were “whipping and flying in the air” when a caravan of pro-Trump supporters cruised into Portland on Aug. 29th to display their support for Trump and push back on the city’s extremism.
During that event, one Trump supporter, Jay Danielson, lost his life after a left-wing extremist allegedly maliciously and purposefully
executed him in cold blood.
Despite members of the left being the ones who
committed a murder that day, the fact that the Trump supporters were allowed to drive into Portland and wave their Trump flags is problematic to Smith. And the solution, it seems, lies in gutting the Constitution.
“Leaders note that Freedom of Speech, as part of the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights of the Constitution is a right of Americans in this country,” her piece continues.
“Yet, this
freedom of speech permits hate speech and symbols of hatred towards Black folx that are a threat to our physical, mental, and emotional safety. Several of the other Amendments represent a similar unsafety for Black folx in this country.”
Notice her use of the term “folx.” It’s a so-called “inclusive” term used by members of the left in the same manner that the
widely disliked term “Latinx” is used to describe Latinos.
Smith continued her piece by complaining about other key amendments, including the Second Amendment, the Fourth Amendment, and the Tenth Amendment.
For instance, the Second Amendment is allegedly bad because “gun violence at the hands of law enforcement officials towards Black folx plays out on our news and social media feeds frequently” and because “white Americans have taken this constitutional right to mean policing their neighborhoods and shooting innocent Black people.”
She may have been referencing the Trayvon Martin case, in which a 17-year-old black teen was fatally shot by Hispanic man George Zimmerman during a 2012 altercation.
Zimmerman was patrolling his neighborhood when he spotted and tried to speak to Martin. In response, the 5’11 teen attacked and nearly killed him, causing Zimmerman to open fire in self-defense, as ruled by a court two years after the shooting.
After the shooting, Zimmerman was described as a “White Hispanic” …
But Smith may also have been referencing the likes of Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the white St. Louis couple who’ve been
tarred and feathered by the institutional left for the non-crime “crime” of
defending their home from left-wing extremists.
While Smith doesn’t specify what exactly she personally would like to see going forward, it should be noted that the publication of her piece coincides with a growing movement on the left that argues that the right to self-defense shouldn’t exist, whereas the “right” for criminals to loot, riot and hurt others should be respected …

feel this way …
Smith concluded her piece by suggesting it’s time to “move bravely and boldly towards something different” from the U.S. Constitution because the Constitution and its principles have “resulted in violations against and the death of Black people in America.”
“Ask yourself these questions: Does this Constitution serve everyone in our country? And if not, why are we continuing to use it as a justification for racist, hate-filled acts of violence? Is this really democracy? Who is holding us accountable? The founding fathers are long gone—who has replaced them as the monitoring agent? And, does Black life matter enough to make us move bravely and boldly towards something different?” she wrote.
Portland’s Office of Equity shared the piece to Twitter Sept. 24th. As of Thursday, it boasted a growing ratio.

Smith’s views do seem to share a similarity to the
disturbing critical race theory propaganda that President Donald Trump has banned from the federal government.
