My guess about people like Waititi is that hating others is very much the only thing left that defines their jewish identity:
* They don't have any sort of religious community, living in their own social bubble that is comprised of consuming media and regurgitating the same ideas.
* They don't do any religious acts besides celebrating the most basic holiday shit (and even then I'll be surprised if they do something besides a fancy dinner and buying gifts). This is because they never took off the fedora.
* They don't have any shared past because it's dominated by white people doing great things rather than courageous gays and black women.

So those people distilled a 2000 year old religion as "hating nazis", which is far more insulting than anything some retarded Alt-Righter can say. And even that doesn't work because there are no nazis, so those faggots need to invent ones regardless of how it contradicts reality.

Depp's version was a perfectly good version. While it added more backstory to Wonka, it was overall much more accurate to the book than the original and also updated Mike Teavee to the modern day. I see no reason why Charlie and the Chocolate Factory needs another remake. No Wonka could be better than the last two, anyway.

But more importantly, shouldn't you do the opposite of aim to infuriate the author of whatever you're adapting? I realize his estate must have their hands tied because they'd just look racist to say 'a Jew can't do this because dad would hate that', but if you're just going to openly say "We're having this person do it because it would infuriate the original author" your right to adapt it should immediately be revoked. but then I think any time people knee-jerk with "I can and will ruin the canon I'm adapting from just to own the haters, take that" they should immediately have the adaption taken away from them and given to someone who will actually treat the property with respect. You're already stealing someone else's work and fame to get money and fame for yourself, the least you can do is show some respect for someone else doing all the hard work for you.
