Actually, that's one reason I always was thankful to my dad. He rescued me.
When my mother relapsed into drugs and her house fell to ruins, he came and got me.

When I was 3 or 4 years old was the first time I was a foster child. There were 7 families who had an adoption application on my one sister and I. (My oldest sister had ready been adopted by another relative). When my grandmother found out we were in line for adoption she applied for custody of us and the judge granted it

The second time I went to foster care (age 13/14) my relatives just left me there for about 2.5 years. I wrote a letter to a judge and asked to be placed with my grandmother because my foster parents (several sets of them) were clearly just using me for money. One of them shunned me because I wouldn't convert to their Mormonism. They took the other foster girls in vacation to Australia and left me home (respite care) as punishment.

Anyways, maybe if I was adopted at 4 I could have had a better childhood. But then again, maybe I would have been adopted by bad people. I knew a guy once whose adoptive father used to punch him in the head until he saw stars. He had huge emotional scars from that. Actually cried in front of me. That's horrible, improper discipline.
