If Pelosi died tomorrow of natural causes, another Pelosi will replace her. San Francisco is a district of elite smug snakes who will gladly put another one in that position. For better or worse, Pelosi is perhaps the most competent legislator we have in the US right now. While she can be replaced ideologically, any punishment she feels will echo through the democratic party hard. They have no one that can come close to her ability to run the house and they know it.
She is the Republican equivalent of Cocaine Mitch. Cocaine Mitch cockblocked Obama hard as well as making his presidency a nightmare. If the Republicans lose Mitch or Democrats lose Pelosi them there are no competent replacements for either.
Obama never came to Mitch and tried to make a deal. Obama was too damn lazy to even talk with democrats on the Hill let alone republicans.

Sometimes I wish these people that claim Trump is a dictator would experience a simulation of living in an actual dictatorship. They whine about Trump all the time, but under a real dictatorship, they wouldn’t be able to speak badly about their leader without facing severe punishment. The closest the US has to dictators right now are mayors and governors overextending their power because of the Coronavirus, but since many of those mayors and governors are championing causes they want, they don’t call them out.

America became too professionalized post World War 2 and anything related to nationalism got tainted by the nazis. Isolationism became a taboo but thanks to Bush, it's making a comeback. Plus the society is too soft thanks to mommy and daddy supporting immigration and helicopter parentimg that makes their lives easier but fucks their kids out of jobs and learning experiences.
There actually are clear potential leaders after McConnel. None quite of his caliber, but the dude has been in the role a long time. The Republicans don't tend to do as much showboating as Democrats, and that includes flashing around potential leaders. They are more the kind to quietly bump them up the ranks, getting them experience for the role.
