They tried their hardest to do so though.
One of the reasons WHY the producers made a clause in their contract that they had considerable creative freedom, is that they were fearful of Kennedy salting the earth with her anti-life demands. The disaster that was The Last Jedi gave them that clout, much to Kennedy's anger and rage, to the extent that they successfully kept Baby Yoda 100% under wraps, even though leaking the character and churning out merchandise for it, might have made money to shore up Kennedy's rapidly collapsing standing.
(Supposedly one of the reasons they gave for control, was that there was legit fear that Kennedy would demand the Mandalorian be female. Them casting a Hispanic actor Pedro Pascal for the role was a work around to Kennedy's anti-life agenda BTW via having a Hispanic actor doing the voice, while keeping his face covered to keep the actual character's ethnicity a secret, though the main suit actor was a white guy and John Wayne's grandson, Brenden Wayne, at that)
When the show DID start airing and Baby Yoda was a huge hit, Kennedy DEMANDED that they declare Baby Yoda female per her anti-life agenda and even spread this in several off the record interviews to pre-emptively force her will via executive decree that they could not reverse once she personally declared it, that quickly leaked to the show's creators who had their lawyers confront Kennedy and told her to STFU and that per their creative control card, had decided Baby Yoda was male and that she couldn't overrule her unilaterally like that.
As it stands, Kennedy can't fucking stand the Mandalorian, as it's the one success Disney Star Wars has that she can't in any way, shape, or form steal credit for and it's further giving ammo to the people wanting her the fuck gone. Rumor has it, she's been trying to find ways to fuck with them and force them to preach the anti-life gospel (supposedly she is the one that is demanding Ahsoka be gay/bisexual in S2). Not to mention the rumors that Kennedy got into the ear of Pedro Pascal, as far as Kennedy convincing him to threaten to quit the show if the producers didn't start showing the main character without his mask, so as to further push the anti-life garbage by explicitly making the character canon-Hispanic for diversity points.
