General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Have to rain on your parade there, the reason Miko's icon appears there is that she got credited for making the thumbnails which is listed on Okayu's stream description.
Nothing personal, since I don’t know who you are, but you’re the worst person alive, I hate you, and I’d say you ruined my day, but now I don’t have to wake up early to catch the stream, so I only think you’re slightly worse than Hitler. But in a nice way.

Also, I think I may have found the smallest of the indie V-tubers, and she seems to actually be pretty competant. 6.5 k subs, and she’s been going for 2 years.

So... what's that supposed to be?
Good AfterEffects/Final Cut fodder.

I think there will be a crash. I've mentioned it before in this thread. It grew really big, really fast, and that's the sign of a fad. I think eventually the novelty will wear off and even the top streamers will be pulling numbers at most one-fifth of what they are now, and the lower-tier ones will quit completely. I think IBS is an appropriate thing to look at for comparison.
Depending on who you ask, there were already several "crashes":
  • Nijisanji forcing streams to be the main content
  • Original top five fading into irrelevancy
  • Kizuna clones
  • Hololive permissions saga
Venti's little crusade is now as deflated as her saggers, and there doesn't seem to be any really new opportunities for real trouble.
If anything might cause another crash, it would be holo/niji rushing to push out another english gen and having it flop because they picked people who were only in it to fuck the other vtubers.
Unless Sony and Microsoft really do start a proxy war with the two agencies.

Her English is quite good as well.

Decided to find a subscriber graph for her channel, looks like she managed to successfully catch the vtuber wave (debuted her character in mid-July).

Okay, call me a noob (because I am), but could you give a tl;dr about these? In particular I've heard the permissions issue come up quite a few times - I don't know why some company would get pissy about a waifu demoing their game to 10k+ viewers, so what was the deal there?

Japan is not like the US and they received copyright complaints from FromSoftware, Capcom, Konami, and Nintendo. I wasn't able to tell of they were copyright strikes ( I'm kind of doubtful since that would nuke many of the channels) or dmca / some Japanese equivalent.

Having one of their talents kicked off youtube would be a huge blow to the company's reputation and a pretty big investment loss. If one company decides to be a dick that can happen out of no where, so it isn't worth the risk.

Some context and translated tweets:

Because Japan basically.
You know that fair-use thing in the West that allows you to stream and make videos about video games and other stuff without them being removed by copyright holders most of the time? There is no such thing in Japan, which means that every time someone wants to show anything that they don't own the copyright to there has to be permission from the copyright holder. Bit backward considering that streaming is good publicity, but Japan being stuck 40 years in the past is nothing new.

IIRC first it was with Nintendo games and monetization of the streams earlier in the year, but shit really hit the fan when Capcom and few others started sending strikes for the same reasons around 2 months ago. This led to Cover going in full panic mode and removing almost all of the Hololive and Holostars videos until they reached an agreement with the game companies.

When are those two Vtubers that got caught up in the China-Taiwan thing supposed to return?

The statement that they were suspended for 3 weeks was made on the 27th of September. That means somewhere around the 18th or 19th of October.
I had a feeling it was fairly close. Hopefully they feel really welcomed back when they do, it really must have sucked dealing with all that.

Whoops. I thought I saw some vids from 2018 in her videos list. Guess not.

I worry that I’m becoming a vtube hipster, moving away from all the popular channels to find these tiny streamers. But on the other hand, the chat in smaller channels is way less obnoxious and more supportive. Except people really have this obsession with teaching vtubers the word ‘poggers’.

I'm actually somewhat surprised DSP hasn't tried to become a vtuber....or has he and I just don't know about it?

She used the character in thumbnails since the start back in 2018 but became vtuber only back in July.

That would require way to much work and effort for him. He would have to, like, download and install software and shit. That's just not something he would do.

He would have to spend a whole day of work just setting it up and would thus lose out on his daily tips and cheers! He needs that money, he really does, he needs that money to survive! If he doesn't get $200 daily he won't be able to buy his groceries and pay his taxes!
This is his excuse when his paypigs ask him to improve the technical parts of his stream in any way.

But back to news that matter, the absolute madman who once translated an ENTIRE 3 HOUR STREAM has returned and translated this clip recently, it's a fucking riot.

So today was the legendary stream and it did not disappoint

The first one that got yeeted in the practice run was Pekora, this was the logical choice after that tag game they did in minecraft where she and Miko decide to kill everyone for less hassle, she has a record of mass homicide

This will never stop being funny

Botan apparently had experience with Among us, she was the one that did all the briefing and explanation of how to play the game, in the first round she was impostor and lied so easily that everyone agreed with her giving Noel the killing strike by killing everyone for lack of oxygen

Okayu showed her mad evil mastermind skills by fooling everyone and won a game without doing anything except borking the oxygen at the last round, chat believed it was Pekora or Fubuki because they were not doing anything, Fubuki was just strolling by the engine and Pekora was stalking Botan until Okayu went full assassin creed on her, scary

Noel also won by pointing how dumb the oxygen system is on the game

Towa was the punching bag of the game getting killed in almost every round or yeeted until the last round where she knifed Botan, Okayu saw it but did not report her, it did not matter because she was yeeted in the next round

In the last round only Noel, Pekora and Nene remained, Pekora went full machine gun and Nene almost gave up but danchou got her and both voted Pekora that in the end she was actually a imposter

Amelia exists and is basically him but more charismatic.
I actually like Amelia, but I like watching people rage. If it's a girl behind an anime avatar then maybe it's a little better.

Only way it would be better is if chat was slow enough and she interacted enough to mess with her about it.
