Allow me to chime in too; it wouldn't be all that hard to make a secondary backup drive while making a single backup. All you'd need is a backup device that allows for it, which exist and aren't terribly expensive.
In fact, even if you lack the hardware, there's software that lets you make backups directly from the computer... I imagine it wouldn't be all that difficult for software to handle backing up to two drives.

Can confirm, I used to clone hard drives at customer's request using a scraped LGA 1366 and a i7 980 CPU. It was also useful when nuking drives as well, due to it's gracious amount of SATA ports.
