They look to the CCP as this protector of Chinese people against the Big Bad West. Keep in mind that the "century of humiliation" mentality still runs deep among many Chinese. With the COVID-19 situation going on, I expect the mentality to be strengthened combined with persecution complexes.

It's the propaganda they were raised with working. All those Chinese diaspora people you mentioned have lived apart from the mainland for generations. They weren't raised bombarded with messages about how China is the bestest at everything, taught to tie their own identity to the state and the government, and taught to instinctually fear reprisals if they shit talk the CCP. Add to that the effects of the cultural revolution, which gutted or vilified a lot of China's historical culture and replaced it with CCP, government, and Mao worship. So for mainland Chinese who grew up after that, sucking CCP dick IS their culture to a large degree. Once again, they're taught to link their personal identity with the state. Taiwanese, Malaysian Chinese, etc, have a richer attachment to Chinese traditional culture than people in the mainland. They don't need to kiss Chinese government ass to feel connected to their Chinese identity.
I'm not sure what exact traits the "ugly american" is suppose to contain but most american tourists/students I've seen recently the last few years wont shut up about how open minded / giga brained they are because they've learned so much about racism. They talk about racism like its a hobby.
I'm curious about this because the only thing I know is that businesses in Malaysia need a minimum of 1 malay or other person to meet diversity quota. So like chinese operated companies need one different person. Less diverse than an american film sequel that no one wants, but diverse nonetheless.
