He's just not that smart or politically savvy (and, like someone mentioned recently, he probably doesn't have many IRL friends). He got a big boost from two things: Trolling Turning Points USA (funny shit) and being against e-girls (he has probably been the victim of a huge amount of viciousness from women, if for his height if not nothing else, and has no illusions that they're the "nice" sex). He's been doing his show for a few years before he got any significant attention in 2019.

There is something particularly womanly about his willingness to make excuses for harassing people who work the most miserable service jobs imaginable. Men have honor codes (compete with people of your own stature, leave the most wretched alone). He has an attitude of "never apologize," which works great against bad faith critics and trolls, but is a really disgraceful thing to display when your shtick is "I'm a good person because I'm religious and Catholic."

There is sort of a Trad Cath civil war, trad caths who focus on the Bible and church history vs those exploiting church scandals vs those just posting Deus Vult and trying to trigger people. There are a group of Trad Caths who call out Catholic grifters. What I would call more practicing Trad Caths seem to see Fuentes as exploiting and misrepresenting the faith for money.

I have not been keeping up with this trend. I will say that the Catholicism of someone like Matt Walsh (who Fuentes has attacked as a Conservative Inc. stooge) is a lot easier to take seriously than that of Fuentes, regardless of politics (and politics should be second if they take their religion seriously).

He doesn't realize that most of the critics calling him out for supporting Baked are doing so not because they're personally offended but because it's bad to endorse someone like him when you're the leader of a political movement whose platform is bent on optics.
Nick grew up pampered and was going to a great school. He shits on workers and has never had a girlfriend (this could be false though, I think the guy is a character and I don't even believe he's Catholic). He has his mother cook him meals. Honestly, if Ben Shapiro socked him for attempting to harass and ambush him while he was with his family, it probably would've knocked some sense into him and make him realize that all of the paypig money and influence he may have (which isn't that impressive, maybe for his age but in general not really enough to evoke actual political change) doesn't make him invincible.
