NGL, it reminded me of a heavy duty version of smoke blowers used by bee-keepers to make the bees less active when it's time to gather honey. I suppose the analogy fits; The PNW protests have been lower energy lately and blowing this smoke at them certainly drove them away and made them less active here -- even if only for the moment.

It was hard to see, but it looks like the blower is hooked up to a small pelletized CS burner. It's impressive that CS pellets can put off a monsterous amount of vapor, as seen here.

We've had the same kind of thing for use on APCs for years, but they were much larger & rarely used. The last time I saw one was in depot, and the last time it'd been used in training was '82. Even then, the burner and emitter was backpack-size, even if it was meant to mount on the powerpack.

That would remind everyone about a very inconvenient truth about crime and demographics. These people are going to whine and complain regardless of what the government does. They will say and do anything to avoid acknowledging the fact that they share some blame in the crime levels of their community. They could have a significant impact if they took some responsibility and made actions at a familial level towards a society that does not enable criminal behavior.

Actually, that raises the question, "how much back pressure can those gas masks prevent?" If the filters are designed for breathing pressures, would it prevent tear gas getting in at higher pressures.

There are devices for military NBC masks that are essentially an electric fan blowing air into a series of gas mask filters, through a hose into the mask. It increases the flow massively and keeps air blowing across your face to keep you marginally cooler. I would expect the filters to hold up just fine to high pressure, anything that could be created outside anyway.

A huge pressure increase outdoors is typically referred to as "a massive explosion".
