Amnesia: Rebirth - Told A Machine For Pigs to hold it's beer

Anmesia: Justine also had a female protagonist. This isn't anything new.

a female protagonist in Current Year

Amnesia: Justine came out in 2011 or so when female protagonists could still be flawed and relatable. Justine was a fantastic character. Twisted and fascinating. I don't think you could get away with having a female protagonist like her in media today.

But you know absolutely nothing about this game's protagonist, by your own admission of having not played it.

After playing SOMA and A Machine For Pigs, I fully expect Rebirth to be another walking simulator with extremely easy "puzzles" and no sanity or health meter to speak of. Going to wait until it's on sale for more than 10% off.

That's true, I don't. I'm assuming she'll be ass going off of what I've seen of current woke trends in storytelling and character narratives throughout the last decade.

But I'm entirely aware that I could be completely wrong. This game could be totally different. And if that's the case I'll eat my words and consider trying the game out after release. But until then I'm not going to risk shelling out twenty-seven dollars to be patronized again about how brave and strong and totally-not-scared of anything the player character is -- least of all in a game where the aim of the game is to be scared.

Watched a decent long stream of it. You're walking around in Africa somewhere, hiding from the boiling sun with some cave gameplay now and then. Very story based and vocal, very little monster AI puzzle.

I never heard of this. Walking Simulators were on the way out by the time Soma was released.

Amnesia was a perfect storm and I really don't think it could be repeated.

For instance, you probably realized this one if you watched a lot of pewdiepie amnesia mods videos where they pounded you with it and it did nothing but the sanity mechanic is actually a lie. A literal image in your inventory and nothing more.
The devs actually tried making it do stuff in development but found it too annoying and thus just gave players the suggestion to up the creep factor.
I haven't seen a game with fake mechanics in a long time and it was very surprising that they got away with it in the internet age without anyone calling their bluff buy 2011 was a time when common technical knowledge of video games was much more scarce so I guess that's how they kept the lie for so long.

Now it just displays jumpscares more frequently which I can't say is an improvement. I guess the fake mechanic this time is the health system since you can't actually die and instead just see jumpscares for a bit and are teleported forward.
