The gist of it is that cover is helping all of their cn branch talent with one of 3 options: They can either go solo, go to another company or graduate.
The decision is in the talent hand, since the rabid "fans" demand it's either coco or them, staying and continue associating with hololive in china seem to be no longer an option. The deadline for them to make a decision is by the end of october.

I kept an open spirit about this trend of entertainnement and watched Gawr Gura play Amnesia Rebirth.

There's nothing really interesting watching an 3d/2d fake 9yo shark character over reacting. Neutral reaction there.

What's really fucking horrfying is the army of pedo/weeb/simp chimeras throwing all their money and cheering at it with emotes and creep messages like a degenerate cesspool of low IQ mental patients.

Ironically or not whalling cash for a holo live character because ''She's cute and we must protecc'' is the same end result to supporting your regular Amouranth monster= You're giving money and getting absolutly nothing out of it except a 2 minutes dopamine rush to a complete stranger that wouldn't piss on you were you to die the moment your cash gets registered in their bank account.

Solo streams are generally not interesting unless it's someone you really like. Non-gaming collab streams are where most of the clips and content come from, and holoEN doesn't really do that yet. For autistic shut-in people (basically everyone now thanks to chinavirus) who are fans of friend-simulator content like game grumps, finding hololive and it's 100000+ hours of collab content of anime girls playing video games and doing quiz shows together is like pure heroin. When there's fuck-all to spend money on these days in terms of entertainment, it's not surprising that some fans start whaling. I think there are far more bored people with too much disposable income than there are actual gachikoi simps. Maybe this will change when the pandemic situation gets better.

They all have family in the mainland, so staying with Cover is not an option. Moving away from China is not an option. The hololive brand is poison in China and they would be better off independent or with another agency. Cover will most likely be transferring intellectual properties like characters and models to the talent so they can continue activities without having to start over, which is the right thing to do, but also means setting some precedent for talent to leave the company while retaining their characters. I see it as a positive thing if it reduces the amount of power the agency has over talent because the business model is built like the idol industry, but worse because an idol agency can't make you give up your first and last name and appearance if you choose to leave. Holo and niji talent are actually independent contractors rather than employees, but the companies hold far more power than is appropriate for a contractor relationship. They shouldn't have their cake and eat it too.

The only reasons I don’t watch more HololiveCN is that Billibilli’s search sucks ass and I can’t put the app on my ipad, so I can’t watch during work. People who make money off of doing it tend to view what they do as a performance anyone can watch but people can throw money at if they're feeling generous and appreciate it a bit more, unless you're an entitled dipshit about it. I mentioned earlier I dropped a decent amount on Calliope because (aside from it being kinda funny) I genuinely enjoy what she does and want to support her work, aside from being generous in general. If I had the money to give a thousand bucks to every content creator I liked I probably would do it, but as it stands I don't; most times I will shell out for physical merchandise because at least then I actually am getting something out of it, even if it's yet another shitty black tshirt to go into my pile of 50 of the things. That's probably the best middle ground; if you're gonna donate, buy a fucking poster or something because you can't buy love, least not where I am and not very easily.

That and in Japan, contract work as an accepted concept doesn't really exist. Cover invests way too much money into these people for them to be labeled as "contractors." As soon as they debut, they're making money. Coco talked about it for a bit, that it took her a while to get monetization enabled on her channel and in the meantime she had to live off the salary Cover gave them for her time. Don't know about you but "contractor" and "salary" don't really go hand-in-hand.

IF I would simp, I would go for option A.

Problem with B, there would be too many and hard to tell who tries their hardest, so would be hard to decide which one was the most hard working one.

I tend to do A and a bit of B, but B really should tie into A. Like, Aqua has clearly put a lot of practice into singing. She used to be mediocre-poor, she’s now quite good. So I like supporting her to show my appreciation of her improvement, but at the same time, her improvement makes me enjoy her shows more. Likewise, Korone works really hard at learning English and reaching out to her fans, but that work also makes her content more enjoyable. I mean, at the extreme end Luna turned her “learning piano” thing into her most popular content. And speaking of Luna, to some extent, C ties back into A as well. At one point, Luna was super unpopular, but once she found her niche, the Lun-Knights are an extremely dedicated fanbase. I think finding your character and audience means more people will enjoy you most.

And I’ve used my dumb WWE analogy before, but the good thing about Hololive being an ensemble and having a bunch of larger-than-life characters is that (assuming it’s going to catch you at all), you will probably find an easy entry point somewhere, and then can use the frequent crossovers to eventually find the Livers you like best. It’s the real advantage that HL and Niji have over a lot of the smaller vtubers. Even like Hanamori Girls Dormitory just doesn‘t have the crazy personalities to do it.

It’s the real advantage that HL and Niji have over a lot of the smaller vtubers. Even like Hanamori Girls Dormitory just doesn‘t have the crazy personalities to do it.

On the other hand, going solo/small group mean you don't have to deal with bullying because your accent sound vaguely similar to someone else.

If I were them, I'd try and go solo with the other members of the CN branch and see if they can keep their personas.

I used to play MMOs, so I use them as a budget baseline for entertainment: If I'm enjoying something for free for several hours, then I don't feel bad throwing out some $15/month to show support.

I believe that Hololive talent are probably independent contractors in the same way that many agency artists and actors are. I'm not an employment lawyer but the terms that hololivers work under seem to match other Japanese entertainment industry talent contracts.

Spoiler: Completely Unfounded Speculation

0. Receiving a base salary as part of your contract despite being an independent contractor is pretty normal. The largest talent agencies like Yoshimoto Kogyo are an example of this type of arrangement.

1. One of the known stipulations of the Hololive contract is a minimum term of one year, presumably with some kind of penalty for leaving. Contractors can be terminated immediately with no thirty day notice and are liable for themselves.

2. Known terms of other v-tuber and talent agencies with no-dating rules would be illegal to apply to employees.

3. The Hitomi Chris incident doesn't really make sense if talent were hired as company employees.

4. The language in the audition page makes it clear that they rent their equipment (iphones, streaming cameras, ect) out of pocket from the company. Arrangements between talent and agency are never referred to as employment.

5. As far as I know, nobody in Hololive has ever referred to themselves as company employees (社員) or any synonym for it except A-chan. Tokino Sora probably has an actual position in the company.
