FBI has had the laptop for over a year already and didn't say anything. Remember when Trump got impeached for congratulating the new President of the Ukraine?

With flash drives wiping should be instant and shouldn't require writing gigabytes of random junk over the whole drive. You'd have a random AES key store in the drive used to encrypt data on a write and decrypt it on a read and a secure erase would just be 'regenerate a new key, overwrite the old one, trim the whole drive'. And because of the way trim works you'd get back zeros if you tried to read it using the controller - the only way to get to it would be to read the bits off the flash directly. And even then you'd need to break AES because you don't know the key it was originally encrypted with.

I'm not sure if any flash drives handle secure erase like this though. But they should.

The single best thing that could happen to the Democrat party as an actual institution, would be a Trump victory. And a sweeping Trump victory even more so. It will give all the low level and mid-level majority of the party the impetus and justification to clean-house of all the ruling elite that have a death grip on it. Of course I could be wrong and the fall of the Ruling Scum of the Democrat party could just open the door to AOC and genuine hard left. But I do think if Biden wins the ordinary Democrat voter doesn't have much hope of seeing their party clean up its act.
